Hill running 1:04:09 [3] 9.02 km (7:07 / km) +920m 4:43 / km

Uphill running, pretty much double yesterday but without the flat part at the beginning. Did 500m flat then the climbing. At the top I did a bit extra of flat/undulating path to stretch out. No problems at all, felt good considering everything. Was tired at the start and could feel some glute and quad stiffness after yesterday but apart from that fine.

Hill running 49:30 [3] 9.03 km (5:29 / km) +550m 4:12 / km

Flat and undulating running by the lake and forest then solid uphill. Could feel the calf already tightening up on the flat but as soon as I started climbing it gradually improved until I noticed nothing from it after a few minutes. Even did a harder effort for the final minute or two and it was completely fine.

Cross trainer intervals 1:20:00 [4]

Back on the machine, 6 x 5 and 12 x 1'. The longer reps were on a slightly lower resistance but quicker than yesterday so I could get the cadence closer to running (180rpm). The shorter reps were a bit higher resistance. Finished off with faster cadence at a moderate effort to cool down. Was working reasonably hard for the entire time. No problems with any muscle pains although I expect to feel tired tomorrow. Even running in the dark in the rain in a city is more enjoyable than this but it's probably doing some good.

To the gym and back plus a bit extra. Really struggling to keep the pedals turning on the way home.

Out and back along the lake. The last days don't seem to have helped anything. Maybe should have done nothing at all although the cycling seemed to make no difference to the calf.

Cross trainer intervals 1:10:00 [4]

Warm up, 5 x 5' then 8 x 1' afterwards. It's possible to work really hard on these things, I'd have to be running very fast to get the same effect. The heat in the gym made this really difficult as well, must have lost litres of water and there was no drink holder. Not nearly as interesting as running or cycling but glad I stuck it out. No problems from the calf, if anything it felt better by the end.

Down to Chiavenna and back over Maloja pass. Flat for 13km then 30km of downhill, all in to a headwind then turned around and came back the same way. Enjoyed the climb, over 90' of decent effort and in hot conditions. Very little traffic as well. Feeling pretty tired by the end, energy running low. 86km and 2000m

Down the valley to Samedan on the hilly backroad with no traffic then up to Bernina pass. 20km of gradual uphill so ideal for just getting a rhythm and spinning away but still working at a moderate effort. Surprised that the road was nearly empty of traffic. When I got to the top I went down a bit then added on a second shorter climb to get more cycle time on the quiet roads. Felt good all the way. In total around 76km with 1300m

Out to Maloja and back with a detour through Sils on the way back. Not sure if cycling twice in a day is useful or not but I felt like getting out. Legs were fine.

Cycling 2:30:00 [2]

Cycle in the valley, first out to Maloja then down to just after Zuoz and back. I think a more hilly route would be better, I was having to go fast just to get any effort level at all. On the way back the wind picked up and it was gradual uphill so was much better. Calf feeling okay, don't think it's any worse on climbs as on the flat. 80km with about 500m in total.

Exploring a few of the paths by the lakes, staying to the flatter areas. Legs feeling good most of the way, had no calf pain but maybe the last 2km I could feel a little bit of tightness starting to come. Iced the calf in the lake after which was nice. Noticed I was breathing more than normal for the pace.
