Easy running warm up in Aberdeen in warm sunshine. Legs feeling okay but getting hungry before the race start.

Road Running race 1:08:41 [4] 21.35 km (3:13 / km) +150m 3:06 / km

Aberdeen half marathon, first edition of the race. Tough course with a lot of hills from 8km onwards and is almost definitely long (seen data from 10-15 watches all the same as mine). Wanted to run around 70' without having to race too hard to test the legs before Jungfrau. Ran with Kyle and James Hoad for the first 5km then they seemed to slow down so I opened up a small gap and eased off slightly. After 7km James caught me up so I had to run a bit harder as we hit the hilly part and the cobbled roads in Old Aberdeen. I got a bit of a gap at 13km and held that to the end. It worked out fine as I felt good on the climbs so could keep the lead without going 100% effort. Didn't feel that great on the flat parts though, not got the same road running rhythm as I had early season but it'll come back. Calf was fine too but I'll have to monitor it. Great day out and very warm sunny conditions for Aberdeen!

Easy run from Aboyne to Glen Tanar then up one of the hills from there, with Ginie for the second half. Feeling good all the way. Calf better on the trails.

Friday Aug 25 #

Out and back along the river trail from Banchory at a moderate effort then with a few shorter efforts on the way back. Legs feeling okay, slight calf stiffness over the last days but nothing painful.

Easy run in Aberdeen

Thursday Aug 24 #

Over Toms Cairn then a loop in the forest. A few stiff muscles after yesterday but feeling pretty good otherwise. Nice sunny morning.

Hill running 42:30 [3] 8.4 km (5:04 / km) +470m 3:57 / km

Peter Hill run. A lot better than yesterday's run both uphill and downhill.

Wednesday Aug 23 #

20' warm up before the session then 25' up Peter Hill directly after then running back to the house. Didn't feel especially great at any point but got it done. On the way back I did a few shorter faster efforts to stretch out the legs.

Road Running 18:43 [5] 6.0 km (3:07 / km) +50m 3:00 / km

6 x 1km (1' easy) on the road from Finzean. Trying to get a bit of flat speed back. Felt pretty slow but got slightly quicker for each out and back split.

Tuesday Aug 22 #

Similar route to yesterday but doing the loop in the opposite direction. Thought I was feeling tired this morning but was fine when I got going, legs pretty good and probably ready for a harder session or two.

Evening run on the Toms Cairn loop. Really foggy on the top and slight drizzle. Legs feeling pretty good though.

Monday Aug 21 #

From Aberdeen up the Denburn to Maidencraig then around Hazlehead and back. Nice run and everything seemed to be feeling good after the weekend. Not feeling the tiredness at the start of the runs that I had last week.

Running, mostly off road 34:15 [2] 7.62 km (4:30 / km) +50m 4:21 / km

Easy run around the parks only on grass. Feeling good by the end. Might not seem like an exciting run but it's quite nice for a change.
