Road Running warm up/down 22:47 [2] 5.12 km (4:27 / km)

Warm up and a few strides along the river ness. Everything feeling good.
12 PM

Road Running race 1:04:27 [5] 21.15 km (3:03 / km) +90m 2:59 / km

Inverness HM. Really happy with how it went. Had Kris to race with which was ideal, that made it tough but also gave the chance for a fast race. Started off at a decent pace and we got the hilly part out the way without dropping much time. Wasn’t sure how hard Kris was working at that stage and if I’d manage to keep up on the faster sections but I felt really good (except one point just before 10k) and was able to push on around after 12-13km and get a bit of a gap. On the flat run back to the city at 16-19km I still had energy in the tank and tried to push on in case the record was within reach and because Kris wasn’t far behind. After a bit of a headwind there the final 2km had a tailwind and I made up a few valuable seconds to sneak 5s in the course record! It was one of my best ever road races which is very satisfying at this stage before the commonwealths. The last few months of racing haven’t been very encouraging but I felt the training had gone well and I was getting in to shape. Now just a few weeks left to keep it ticking over.

Running, mostly off road 30:14 [2] 5.57 km (5:26 / km)

Cool down along the river/canal path with Kris and Ginie. Totally ran out of energy halfway through and was lucky to get back without walking. Too long since breakfast.

Running, mostly off road 1:02:38 [3] 16.8 km (3:44 / km) +110m 3:37 / km

Steady out and back on the Deeside way path. Did 10 x 30s/30s jog to get the legs turning over a bit. Everything fine. Hopefully will feel more rested than at any point in the last few weeks by the weekend. Don't want to take it too easy as next Thursday I'll be going to Australia and will probably have to cut back for a few more days.
4 PM

Running, mostly off road 32:33 [2] 7.04 km (4:37 / km) +40m 4:30 / km

Easy run from Northfield to Rubislaw by the Denburn path for a lot of the way and through some parks. Very muddy and waterlogged but legs ok.

Running, mostly off road 1:14:57 [2] 16.11 km (4:39 / km) +400m 4:08 / km

Easy hilly run around the lower trails at Scolty. One part was completely free of snow so I did a 3km out and back section a few times and some strides. Legs still feeling fine. Long day of travel yesterday so but tired from that.
4 PM

Running, mostly off road 32:28 [2] 7.21 km (4:30 / km) +100m 4:13 / km

Short run in the forest. Snow melting away quickly but a few patches left and plenty of mud and puddles between the tree roots. Feeling pretty good and going a bit faster than normal, it's always a lot slower running on these trails than anywhere else.

Running, mostly off road 47:39 [2] 11.4 km (4:11 / km) +50m 4:05 / km

Easy run around the uni again to avoid tarmac. Feeling good and moving well. Did a few strides as well.

10 AM

Running, mostly off road 41:29 [2] 9.51 km (4:22 / km) +30m 4:18 / km

Easy warm up and cool down to the canal and back, sticking mostly to the paths at the uni and grass. Feeling more awake than the last days. Calves a bit stiff on the cool down but not too bad.

Road Running intervals 39:36 [5] 12.13 km (3:16 / km) +30m 3:13 / km

6 x 1.65km (2’ easy) around the Olympic canal loop. Easier than trying to work out mile reps exactly. Went really well, felt comfortable running mostly around 3’/km pace and finished feeling like there was more in the legs. One of the best sessions of the winter and hopefully a sign things are on track. Bit breezy and warm but better conditions than the last days.
6 PM

Running, mostly off road 31:55 [2] 7.02 km (4:33 / km) +30m 4:27 / km

Easy run around the uni campus trails. Legs stiff to start with but feeling good after 1km.

9 AM

Road Running 1:05:38 [3] 18.02 km (3:39 / km) +20m 3:37 / km

Steady run along the seafront. First and last quarter with the wind behind and the middle half going in to it. Raining and warm, a bit slippery on the pavement though. Started off feeling like yesterday, not able to get moving smoothly but then it got better, it all felt easy though. Put in a 1km effort and a few strides towards the end to get everything woken up.
6 PM

Running, mostly off road 31:34 [2] 7.28 km (4:20 / km) +20m 4:17 / km

Easy run around the loop at the uni a few times plus some strides. Feeling a lot more bouncy than the last days.
