Running, mostly off road 1:29:54 [3] 22.04 km (4:05 / km) +450m 3:42 / km

Steady run with Ben on the Bisse de Vex. Out and back 10km plus some strides and extra bits at the end. Tired and stiff after the journey but loosened off quite well. Good to be back although without any luggage and borrowing Ben’s kit.

Running, mostly off road 2:24:16 [3] 35.41 km (4:04 / km) +550m 3:47 / km

Long pre breakfast run around Countesswells a few times then over to Hazlehead for the final 10-12km. The first half was reasonably good but I couldn’t really pick it up for the last half as I thought I might. Everything a bit stiff for the final 10km but actually not too bad right at the end.

Hill running 1:48:39 [2] 21.76 km (5:00 / km) +540m 4:27 / km

Easyish run over Brimmond and Elrick hills. Five short climbs with a bit of flatter running and the start and finish. Bit stiff from yesterday night but not too bad. Made the mistake of wearing thick tights to stop my legs getting cut by the gorse and because it was cool and wet but with the rain they soaked up so much water and it was like running with leg weights.

Running, mostly off road 44:14 [2] 10.26 km (4:19 / km) +120m 4:04 / km

Easy loop and a bit extra around Hazlehead with a few strides and hill sprints mixed in. Feeling better today, legs and abdominal muscles much less stiff and also the cold seems to be a bit better.
6 PM

Running, mostly off road warm up/down 34:19 [2] 6.71 km (5:07 / km) +150m 4:36 / km

Warm up and cool down around the lower trails at Bennachie. Glad I had a look at the first few bits of the route just to remind myself of it.

Hill running race 29:11 [5] 6.63 km (4:24 / km) +340m 3:30 / km

Mither Tap hill race. 10 years since I last raced here but good to be back finally. Started with a flat section which I pushed reasonably hard then tried to work hard on the climb too. Ran it pretty well but on the narrow twisty paths near the top I couldn’t get much of a rhythm going. Took the first bit of downhill fairly easy over the rocky and step section then let the legs go as I got on the smoother trail. Enjoyed it quite a lot but it was over really quickly. Not sure I’ve got the legs for these short races now! 2’09” ahead of Hamish (and the CR) but I took 1’40” of that out just on the 12’ climb so shows I’m getting too old for the downhill.

Running, mostly off road 1:11:37 [2] 16.4 km (4:22 / km) +100m 4:14 / km

Easy run through Countesswells, Hazlehead and through Maidencraig, finishing at ASV. Overall 150m downhill but I don’t feel guilty after having done the same journey uphill yesterday. Legs feeling quite stiff and noticing the lower abdomen muscles after the treatment.

Road Running 11:00 [2] 2.2 km (5:00 / km)

Easy running and taking a group for a some relaxed 200s
6 PM

Running, mostly off road 27:51 [2] 6.1 km (4:34 / km) +50m 4:23 / km

Easy run through Maidencraig and back. Bit better than this morning but think I’ve got a bit of a cold.

Running, mostly off road warm up/down 36:42 [2] 8.31 km (4:25 / km) +90m 4:11 / km

Easy running to Hazlehead and around some of the loop to warm up. Cool down coming back home again. Legs nice and bouncy on the way there but feeling suitably fatigued on the way back.

Running, mostly off road tempo 36:15 [5] 11.24 km (3:14 / km) +140m 3:02 / km

Two laps of Hazlehead at a hard effort. Half of each lap slightly uphill including a tough little 500m section at the end of each lap. Felt good on the first gradaul uphill and managed to stride out well on the long downhill but attacked the final climb a bit too hard so 1km in to the second lap it suddenly started to hurt! I recovered quite well after the initial climb and finished strongly enough though. Had planned to do this tempo and a few 1’ reps after but I realised that was a bad idea and this was already hard enough for today.
4 PM

Road Running 41:48 [2] 9.14 km (4:34 / km) +130m 4:16 / km

Easy run from ASV back to Kingswells, first half through the town then on the trails through Maidencraig. Bit tired from this morning and muscles tender after massage.

Running, mostly off road 1:29:04 [2] 18.11 km (4:55 / km) +450m 4:22 / km

Easy run over Brimmond and Elrick from Kingswells. Haven’t been up there for over four years when it used to be my morning commute to uni. Apart from the new bypass carved in to the side of the hill not much has changed. Legs feeling surprisingly good after yesterday.
