Hill running 1:26:34 [2] 16.11 km (5:22 / km) +550m 4:35 / km

Pre breakfast run with Ben. Exploring a bit then adding on some extra running on the bisse. Fairly easy going except the odd steep climb.

Saturday Aug 4, 2018 #

Running, mostly off road 57:36 [2] 10.82 km (5:19 / km) +130m 5:01 / km

Warm up in Fionnay and easy running on the trail down the first 5km of the mountain. Fairly good paths and not too steep downhill. Walked the steep rocky section.
9 AM

Hill running race 53:09 [5] 7.21 km (7:22 / km) +1180m 4:03 / km

Trophy Combin uphill race/ time trial. Fun race where you choose your start time and start in a small group every 10min. I went in the last group at 9am to go 10min behind Sarah as extra motivation for her not to get caught and for me to have someone to chase (not that I got close). The course started really steep but runnable then had a flatter middle section before being fairly steady 17% to the end, finishing at 2660m. By the time I started the sun had risen enough to make the first climb really hot. I didn’t really know how to pace it so tried to work fairly hard but save a bit of energy for the second half. Once it levelled out I got a fairly bad stitch and couldn’t run fast on the flatter bits. After that I tried to keep working hard but never got near my limit. Really enjoyed running along the moraines and finishing right by the glacier. Hard to know how well I was running uphill but it was definitely a good session to do before next week. Sarah got the CR by over a minute which was held by Maud Mathys

Friday Aug 3, 2018 #

Running, mostly off road 1:27:39 [3] 20.03 km (4:23 / km) +380m 4:00 / km

Run starting on the bisse from Thyon and adding in some more hilly paths. Began fairly easy then worked the effort up slightly but was comfortable all the way. Hill sprints after 13km on a steep track too. Legs and back much better than yesterday which is good.

Thursday Aug 2, 2018 #

Easy run on a trail I haven’t been on before starting from 1500m. Turned in to a really nice wide gravel path almost completely flat from 3km to the turning point.

Woke up with a lot of pain and stiffness in my back but it gradually eased off with some walking around and wasn’t too bad on the run.

Easy jog with Ben. Starting off quite stiff but improving all the way.

Wednesday Aug 1, 2018 #

Running, mostly off road warm up/down 36:56 [2] 7.81 km (4:44 / km) +100m 4:27 / km

Warm up and cool down on the bisse.

Running, mostly off road tempo 36:51 [5] 10.46 km (3:31 / km) +140m 3:18 / km

Tempo run out and back on the bisse (6.4km) then 8 x 1’ (1’) on the road section at the beginning. Quite difficult to get any speed going on the bisse with old people, kids, dogs and donkeys all the way and it already being a fairly twisty path. The reps were pretty good though, faster than I’ve ran for a long time and Ben pushing the pace.

Easy run out and back. Massive thunderstorm and water all over the path. Legs were stiff at the start but loosened off. My back randomly tightened up afterwards which was annoying.

Tuesday Jul 31, 2018 #

Steady run out and back on the Thyon race course with Ben. He was in good form today so set a decent pace from the start and I just sat behind until we turned around. Didn’t feel that great until we got over the first climb then it was better. Hot day even at over 2000m altitude so must be unbearable in the valley. Not planning to race tomorrow now, think it would be easy to overdo it after last week being quite hard.

Running, mostly off road 38:37 [2] 8.32 km (4:38 / km) +170m 4:13 / km

Easy run plus a few 150s on the flat section. Legs finally moving better by the end.

Monday Jul 30, 2018 #

10 AM

Running, mostly off road 48:51 [2] 10.1 km (4:50 / km) +200m 4:24 / km

Easy run out and back from Thyon. Fairly tired as expected but nothing too tight or sore.
6 PM

Running, mostly off road 33:11 [2] 7.03 km (4:43 / km) +160m 4:14 / km

Easy out and back with a few little stride type efforts. Much more energy and fresher legs than the morning.
