Running, mostly off road 2:10:01 [4] 36.15 km (3:36 / km) +160m 3:31 / km

Long run from Aboyne to Ballater and back on the Deeside line. Foot feeling a lot better after one day off running so took a risk and got a decent session in the bag. Stuck a thin strip of gel pad across the forefoot where the toes join so it gave a bit of protection when rolling forward but didn’t get in the way much. Felt the odd twinge when landing directly on stones but overall wasn’t too bad and didn’t feel much worse after. Happy enough with the run, easing in to steadyish effort on the way out then picking it up a bit on the way back. Wasn’t hitting anything particularly quick but after feeling tired and stiff from yesterday it wasn’t bad. Had a few sips of water but no fuel.

Easy ride from Finzean to Tarland with Ginie. On the full suspension mtb for extra resistance but it was a tailwind most of the way so still fairly easy and fast.

Back home a longer way through Dinnet, Aboyne then up the long climb from Birsemore up to the fungle path and down to the Birse road to Finzean. Good to get off road on some proper climbs and to the hill which broke me last weekend (going downhill this time). Strong headwind once out the trees. Solid effort most of the way.

Easy run around Hazlehead and laps around the grass. Started off noticing the foot a bit so did some grass laps and it seemed to improve so finished off the lap. Planning to have a day off running and see how it feels Sunday. The softer ground definitely seems better but it’s slow to improve.

Thursday Feb 21, 2019 #

Out to the road loop at Westhill and back after the session. Legs feeling good. Foot slightly more noticeable after two runs yesterday but fine running in the softer shoes.

Road Running intervals 32:30 [5] 10.01 km (3:15 / km) +80m 3:07 / km

5 x 5' (90s easy) on the Brodiach road/cycle road loop, slightly undulating but nothing too severe. Enjoyed running a bit quicker and feeling good for a change, perfect conditions too. Didn't notice the foot during the session but it was a bit worse after, as usual.

To physio and back at easy effort, longer way on the way home with a few small climbs.

Short easy run on the trails. Bit stiffer afterwards but not too bad during.

Wednesday Feb 20, 2019 #

Lap and a half of Hazlehead. Legs feeling good once warmed up. Still feeling the foot when barefoot on the hard floor but didn't notice it on the run, even on a stony section. Feeling slightly more tender afterwards but not really painful. Wore different shoes to yesterday and think they weren't as good.

Easy run in Maidencraig. More of the same, foot not too bad but probably worse after. Otherwise legs feeling good.

Tuesday Feb 19, 2019 #

Running, mostly off road warm up/down 40:38 [2] 9.1 km (4:28 / km) +100m 4:14 / km

Warm up out to the grass pitches at Sheddocksley. Foot not bad after yesterday and only slightly noticeable on hard uneven surfaces, wouldn't describe it as painful but a slight discomfort when something stabs in to the area. Way back felt mostly fine as well, just one section with a few pointy stones I had to be careful with my footing.

Running, mostly off road tempo 37:29 [5] 11.01 km (3:24 / km) +80m 3:17 / km

Grass tempo run around the lap five times, two short climbs each lap and mostly pretty soft underfoot. It wasn't wet but more mossy grass where it saps the strength a bit. Wasn't bothered about the splits and didn't look at any of them, just ran a fairly hard effort and picked it up slightly on the last lap. Happy with the run and I didn't notice my foot at all, will see how it feels tomorrow and think about what to do later in the week.

Monday Feb 18, 2019 #

Running, mostly off road 44:13 [2] 10.1 km (4:23 / km) +90m 4:11 / km

Testing out the foot after it felt a lot better walking around. Definitely much improved on last week, didn't notice anything when running at any paces. Could feel it very slightly after the run when in bare feet but it wasn't painful like last time. Will see how it is tomorrow and either do another day or two of cycling or run on some grass.
