Sunday Mar 3 #

Running, mostly off road warm up/down 30:20 [2] 6.83 km (4:26 / km) +90m 4:10 / km

Early start to get a little session done before being on a course all day. Ran from Aviemore to the nice trail going towards the Lairig Ghru then started some fartlek. Cool down from Loch Morlich to Glenmore lodge. Struggling on the cool down due to lack of breakfast.

Running, mostly off road intervals 40:00 [5] 11.22 km (3:34 / km) +150m 3:21 / km

20 x 1' hard (1' steadyish) on the trails to Loch Morlich. Nothing spectacular in terms of pace but a hard 40 minutes with lots of gradually uphill efforts and some faster flatter ones. Legs were still too tired to run fast anyway so this was ideal. The last few were getting tough.

Easy run from Glenmore around Loch Morlich then back down to Aviemore. Downhill second half. Tired legs and noticing the other foot a bit.

Friday Mar 1 #

Running, mostly off road 2:33:59 [3] 38.01 km (4:03 / km) +380m 3:51 / km

Longest run of the winter so far. Starting around Loch Kinord then over the hill to Cambus O' May then Deeside line back to Dinnet, over to Glen Tanar for an out/back section then down to Aboyne. Almost all trails and some slower single trails.

Effort felt really comfortable and energy levels were good without any fuel and a big gap since breakfast. Legs were awful, did some strength exercises including some tougher than normal squats last night and my quads were tightening up after 16km. Thought I'd have to cut the run short but it eased off gradually and felt better by the end, just meant I couldn't run quicker. Foot was mostly fine except the odd stone hitting it directly on the bruise although now I've got what feels like an identical issue in the other foot!

Thursday Feb 28 #

Easy running through Hazlehead then 10k with Tom, gradually speeding up through the run without realising. Feeling pretty tired from yesterday but no issues with the foot before during or after, so far. Very happy with how it’s felt even with some tougher runs. Still planning to keep to single runs this week and making the easy days lower volume.

Wednesday Feb 27 #

Road Running warm up/down 29:25 [2] 6.92 km (4:15 / km) +40m 4:08 / km

Easy running over to the 4km loop at Westhill and back after the session. Did the new exercises pre run and didn’t notice anything from the foot before starting. Expected to feel the usual post run pains after taking off the shoes but nothing so far. Exercises afterwards too.

Road Running tempo 59:24 [5] 18.12 km (3:17 / km) +110m 3:11 / km

3 x 5km (4’ steadyish recovery) around the loop. Happy with the session, no niggles and generally feeling good. Warm sunshine and no wind again. Could have done with a drink, was like being back in Spain again! Two little climbs each lap, much more noticeable today compared to the 5’ reps last week.

Tuesday Feb 26 #

Cycling 2:04:00 [3]

Out to Kirkhill for a few climbs then back. Warm and sunny with no wind. Pushed some of the climbs to get a bit more of a workout.

Saw J.C to get the foot checked out, he reckons it should be manageable with some extra mobility work rather than more time off running. Will try and test it out later and see how things are. Feels a lot better after yesterday.

Road Running 46:04 [2] 10.02 km (4:36 / km) +160m 4:15 / km

Easy run back from ASV. Hadn’t planned to run today but following advice from J.C and the foot felt pretty much fine. Only issue was having some extra clothes with me so ran in a fleece and jacket on a day where folk in the city were in shorts and vests. Legs heavy for first 10min then felt good by the end.

Monday Feb 25 #

Cycle up Brimmond hill on the mtb, 23km. Wanted to go further but left it too late.

Foot a bit worse again, not surprising after yesterday. Thought it might clear up without too much reduction in running volume as it improves quickly but every run (or walk) seems to flare it up. Time for more cycling days.
5 PM

Cycling 1:08:00 [2]

Ride through the sunset and in to the darkness around Hazlehead and Countesswells. Speed a bit limited on the downhills with the torchlight but was still able to climb okay. Enjoyed getting out again.
