Running, mostly off road 1:32:55 [2] 21.03 km (4:25 / km) +300m 4:07 / km

Undulating run around trails from Glenmore and Loch Morlich. More snow melted overnight so could go a bit further. Thought I’d get more elevation than 300m with a few short climbs but I couldn’t get much higher up with the snow. Still stiff from Friday but should be better by tomorrow.

Running, mostly off road 38:24 [2] 8.05 km (4:46 / km) +70m 4:34 / km

Easy run pre breakfast from Glenmore. Pretty grim with the combination of stiff legs and snowy trails with some ice and meltwater mixed in. Managed to stay on my feet and felt slightly better by the end.
5 PM

Running, mostly off road 45:53 [2] 10.08 km (4:33 / km) +110m 4:19 / km

Easy run past the Green Loch and bothy from Glenmore. Had to turn back when the path was too covered in snow to run enjoyably. Loads of surface water on the paths too. Slightly better legs than the morning. Had some practical sessions in the afternoon involving a few km of running plus some drills etc.

Road Running 24:15 [2] 5.71 km (4:15 / km)

Easy warm up on the road down to the Deeside line.

Road Running tempo 1:32:23 [4] 27.47 km (3:22 / km) +160m 3:16 / km

Longer tempo run on the Deeside line. Plan was to run the first half slightly quicker than steady then pick it up on the way back. That plan went out the window early on as there was a strong tailwind on the way out and I was going a lot faster even though it was slightly uphill. Felt really comfortable so just went with it. After turning around at 11km it became a lot tougher so was struggling to maintain the pace even with downhill! Grabbed my bag and a much needed drink at 22km then turned back up the line for another 5km to finish off. Happy enough with the run, the average pace was fine although I wanted to start slower and finish quicker.

Running, mostly off road 37:06 [2] 7.51 km (4:56 / km) +170m 4:26 / km

Death march back home up hillhead road and through Countesswells. Seemed a good idea to run back instead of getting the bus but it was grim. So thirsty and hungry and uphill all the way. The second half got better though.

Running, mostly off road 1:34:31 [3] 23.32 km (4:03 / km) +310m 3:48 / km

Lap of Hazlehead then Countesswells and home, nice enjoyable run with almost fresh legs. Bit more of a steady effort in places but feeling comfortable. Did some strides on the last 2km at the end but all of them except the last one were directly in to the wind. Pretty cold, muddy and wet so all the layers I was wearing were soaked and heavy.

Running, mostly off road 1:16:39 [2] 17.01 km (4:30 / km) +250m 4:12 / km

Easy loop of Hazlehead and Countesswells in the cold rain. Legs stiff after yesterday but getting better during the run.
4 PM

Running, mostly off road 29:20 [2] 6.59 km (4:27 / km) +30m 4:21 / km

Easy run to the city on some trails, downhill second half. Definitely an improvement in the legs since the morning and it stopped raining.

Road Running warm up/down 34:48 [3] 8.36 km (4:10 / km) +40m 4:04 / km

Warm up out to Westhill and cool down the same way back. Waited for the snow/sleet to stop and got the best of the weather. Bit of a breeze and cold though. Everything moving well.

Road Running intervals 33:00 [5] 10.16 km (3:15 / km) +80m 3:08 / km

5 x 5’ (2’ easy) on the loop. Very happy with session, first rep fairly comfortable then picked up the effort throughout. The 1st, 3rd and 5th reps were going in to the wind and with an uphill second half so it made it a bit tougher. The last few were probably my quickest miles in a session but I won’t get too excited unless it converts to some good races.
6 PM

Running, mostly off road 38:01 [2] 8.38 km (4:32 / km) +100m 4:17 / km

Easy lap of Hazlehead. A few stiff muscles in the legs but loosening off throughout.

Running, mostly off road 55:56 [2] 12.24 km (4:34 / km) +110m 4:22 / km

Easy running down Maidencraig to town for a massage then back the same way. Quite an improvement on the various stiff muscles from the last two days. Nice to feel good on an easy day for a change.
