Sunday Mar 15 #

Running, mostly off road 1:39:51 [2] 20.25 km (4:56 / km) +530m 4:22 / km

Back home after a nightmare journey, close to not getting back at all. Tried to sleep while travelling for about 8 hours in total and for another 3 hours after getting home at 7am but felt so tired and stiff. Achilles was sore through the run after being fine for months. Went over Scolty and Goauch hill then back along the river.

Most folk are in a similar situation of not knowing what races they're training for now. I might be able to run the GB Olympic marathon trial which is apparently going to happen the same weekend London would have been. So far I've got no more info and I'm not sure they can guarantee it'll actually happen. Also don't know if I'd want to run it if it's a small field aiming for 2.10. The alternative is doing some local hill running and hoping enough events go ahead. I'll see how things go in the next week or so.

Final run in Fuerteventura, over the first volcano with Ginie, Claire and Jennifer then over to two more of the peaks on my own. Couldn't resist ticking them all off. Big improvement on yesterday but still not 100%.

Warm up and cool down around the town. Woke up with a sore head and generally feeling rough but went out anyway to see how it was once warmed up.

Road Running intervals 42:40 [4] 11.86 km (3:36 / km) +40m 3:32 / km

Plan was 3 x 4 mile tempo but midway through the first I didn't feel right and it suddenly got really hard so I abandoned it at the end and did some 200s with quite long jog recoveries. They weren't 100% effort but got the legs moving a bit. Probably got the virus.

Thursday Mar 12 #

Hilly run over the little volcano peaks. Did one climb a bit harder to stretch the legs then the rest fairly easy. Hottest day so far and a bit less windy.

Easy run along the coast then across the sand dunes and back along the gravel path by the road. Some sections quite soft sand and slow going. Did a few strides after and felt good. Hot evening for it.

Wednesday Mar 11 #

Easy longer loop along the lower slopes of the volcanoes then down to the coast and back on the gravel road. First half was enjoyable but then it was hot, dry and in to a solid headwind.

Tuesday Mar 10 #

Road Running warm up/down 55:11 [2] 11.64 km (4:44 / km) +50m 4:38 / km

Warm up on the roads around the town, dropping a bottle off on the rep road. Cool down on road and some of the sandy beach trails.

Road Running intervals 30:20 [5] 9.62 km (3:09 / km) +60m 3:03 / km

8 x 1.2km (300m jog recovery) out and back on the road. One direction was slightly uphill with a tailwind and the way back in to the wind but downhill. Overall it worked out quite well although it was difficult to judge the effort right. Had a drink every 2nd rep which kept me going. Between the heat and wind it was hard to run fast but happy enough with it.

Easy out and back along the lower part of the volcano trail. Legs not bad. Still hot and windy.

Monday Mar 9 #

Easy run up the local volcano peak from two different sides. Bit rocky but nice views from the top.

Running, mostly off road 35:59 [2] 8.14 km (4:25 / km) +30m 4:20 / km

Easy out and back along the coast. Mostly trail and a bit of soft sand mixed in. Feeling better than earlier in the day. The wind never dies down here.
