Sunday Oct 4 #

Road Running 1:15:30 [3] 20.04 km (3:46 / km) +230m 3:34 / km

Road loop over Bridge of Feugh starting from home. Plenty of flooding around so stuck to the tarmac. Eased in to a steadyish effort and put in a few strides mixed through. Everything felt quite good, would have liked to run a bit faster in the strides but didn't want to work the hamstring too hard. Such a short run on a Sunday, next weekend the race better be on!

Easy Crathes single trail loop with the dog. Basically a splash through puddles and over wet tree roots and mud. Bumped in to Donald half way and ran the rest with him. There wasn't anywhere off road that would have been good to run but at least it was an easy day.

Run with Rob from Derry Lodge to Etchachan, down to Loch Avon then up some gully scramble then to Macdui and Carn a' Mhaim and back. Really enjoyable day and perfect weather although soggy underfoot in places. Was a bit worried about overdoing it but the descents were relaxed and I felt strong enough on the climbs not to have to work hard. The gully was filled with loose rock and had water flowing down but there wasn't anything tricky.

Warm up and cool down around Hill of Banchory. Miserable cold wet day but nice and quiet on the pavements.

Road Running 35:30 [4] 10.56 km (3:22 / km) +90m 3:13 / km

2.5km tempo (450m easy) 3.3km (800m easy) 3.4km. Made a more hamstring friendly tempo run by only working the flat and uphill parts and using the downhills as recovery. It meant the effort was solid anyway. The second rep had nearly 2km of mostly uphill in to the wind so paces weren't great but it made the flat bits feel easier. Felt gradually better through the session and the hamstring was fine.

Easy Deeside way run to Culter. Starting off dry and finishing in nasty weather.

Saw JC about the hamstring. There was definitely an issue causing it to not work properly and be super tight. It seemed a lot more useful and less painful after the treatment so will see how it feels on the next few runs. The treatment left a few areas really tender so I'll see how it feels later before deciding on a run tonight.

Easy Crathes run, wet in places but not too bad. Hamstring a bit better definitely.

Scolty and Goauch hills with the dog, three decent climbs at a moderately hard effort. Included the long one made by mountain bikers from the riverbank all the way to the highest point on Goauch. Nice warm dry sunshine. Hamstring more or less fine except when I tripped on a rock and felt it tighten up.

Easy Crathes loop on the single trails. Noticed a few creaks from the hamstring early on then it was fine.
