Running, mostly off road 1:41:03 [2] 24.23 km (4:10 / km) +170m 4:02 / km

Deeside line out and back. Thought a flat one would be better for the legs. Felt pretty good for the first half but my lower back and hips were stiffening up after that and I was regretting going out as far as I had. Considering how yesterday went it was still a big improvement.

Cycling 25:00 [4]

Planned a gym session but my back was too sore to think about lifting weights. Borrowed Ginie's smart turbo trainer and bike to do an FTP test on zwift + warm up/cool down. It was the ramp test that gets progressively harder every 1min. Really enjoyed it despite the lack of proper cycling recently and not having the clip in shoes. Completed 440W then had to stop. Back was fine by the end though.

That was a tough one. Tired legs, nothing sore but just a struggle. Got going eventually but the pace was always slow. Ran up to Hazlehead then did a bit there before taking the group for a 1km warm up after finishing my run.

Hill running 5:11:42 [3] 35.24 km (8:51 / km) +2580m 6:28 / km

Some of the Lochaber hills with Rob. DOMS still there so legs were stiff right from the start and made all the descending more painful than usual.

Planned to do the Lochaber traverse route but we changed plans to add in another peak and take a longer route up to the main ridge. That was because it was pouring rain and freezing cold and we reckoned we might just do two hills then head back. Once we got up high it cleared and was fine for running apart from the fresh snow and slush making it tricky underfoot. We made it to Aonach Mor before the black clouds rolled in and the snow started again. I was also pretty tired by then so wasn't fussed about cutting it short and missing out CMD and Ben Nevis which would have taken ages in the snow. Trying to find a way down to the path off Aonach Mor in minimal visibility and snow covered rocks wasn't fun.

Ate fairly regularly from about 50min onwards but probably needed a bit more in the second half.

Running, mostly off road 1:08:24 [2] 16.12 km (4:15 / km) +120m 4:05 / km

Deeside line out and back to Drumoak. Severe DOMS from the gym session but despite that I got in to a decent rhythm and didn't notice the hamstring at all. Yesterday's treatment definitely helped.

Running, mostly off road 34:19 [2] 7.07 km (4:51 / km) +110m 4:30 / km

Easy one around Crathes with the dog. Slow going on the trails in the fading light. Not feeling too bad though

Running, mostly off road 53:22 [2] 12.13 km (4:24 / km) +160m 4:08 / km

Easy Crathes loop plus 6 x hill sprints (25-30s long) on the road near the end. A lot better than yesterday.

Running, mostly off road 20:10 [2] 4.02 km (5:01 / km) +40m 4:47 / km

Shake out run with the dog on the muddy twisty trails behind the house.

Note

Physio followed by first proper gym session since March. Going to give it another try and be optimistic that it'll help my running.

Running, mostly off road 1:31:30 [3] 21.46 km (4:16 / km) +310m 3:59 / km

Run with Hamish around the Crathes trails then a loop through Corsee and home again. Wet underfoot so plenty of mud. Tried to get a steadier effort which hit just the right HR, pace was slow on those paths though. Everything was good for the first hour but could feel the hamstring tiring by the end and everything stiffening up.

Running, mostly off road 1:22:44 [2] 17.96 km (4:36 / km) +270m 4:17 / km

Riverside and shooting greens loop with Graham. Enjoyed the company and ended up running just as easy as I wanted. Think there's been progress with the aches and pains over the last days so hopefully at some point this week I will feel fresh and bouncy again.
