Running, mostly off road 1:40:01 [2] 18.53 km (5:24 / km) +470m 4:47 / km

Easy Scolty run with the dog. Snow starting to melt, not too bad to run on in the compacted areas but the deeper parts were really slow. Wild at the top of the hill with ice, deep drifts and strong wind.

Saturday Feb 13 #

Road Running 2:09:05 [4] 37.1 km (3:29 / km)

Treadmill long tempo, 4km easy, 30km at 18.1km/h, 3km easy. Mentally tough but not too bad once in the rhythm. Realised a few km in that the gradient was up so I put it back to 1% and it felt way better. 25km through the tempo the treadmill turned off with no warning which caused a mini crash. Once up to speed again I did the last 5km slightly quicker to get the HR back up. Overall not too bad with enough drinks and cold air coming in.

Deeside way and Crathes with strides on the business road. Bit more fresh snow made the paths harder work than yesterday. Got slightly more used to it through the run. Finally a short section of clear tarmac for strides.

Road Running 25:01 [2] 5.38 km (4:39 / km) +50m 4:27 / km

Easy out and backs on the business park road. Road covered in fresh snow from the constant blizzards. Legs moving fine though.

Thursday Feb 11 #

9 AM

Running, mostly off road 2:24:04 [2] 22.41 km (6:26 / km) +610m 5:40 / km

Scolty and Goauch then along the river with Hamish. Stupidly let him take me on a route that nobody goes on, especially in the snow. Wading through waist deep snow on the side of Goauch looking for the path then the gloves freezing solid was a low point. Got slightly better under the trees then joining the worn in tracks. Felt tired near the end. Coldest run in a long time, -13 at the start.

Road Running 32:43 [2] 8.07 km (4:03 / km)

Treadmill on 1.5%. Felt easy compared to the snow trudging this morning. Tight calves but better through the run.

Wednesday Feb 10 #

Road Running 1:28:12 [2] 21.12 km (4:11 / km)

Treadmill on 2%. Bit of a thought to get back on for another 90min but it went by quickly and the legs felt good after a few minutes.

Note

Longer XC ski through shooting greens and along the river. So much snow. Great conditions in some parts but a few icy compacted sections. Got tired before the end, definitely underestimated how tough it'd be.

Tuesday Feb 9 #

Road Running warm up/down 25:53 [2] 6.25 km (4:08 / km)

Treadmill warm up on 2% getting slightly quicker throughout. Shorter cool down. Felt so slow after the reps.

Road Running intervals 1:11:27 [5] 22.0 km (3:15 / km)

Treadmill on 1%, 7 x 2km (1km steady) + 1km to round it up to 15km of reps. Paces around 19.2kph for reps and 17.0 for recovery. Felt like quite a good workout, fairly hard for a long time but never a struggle to finish the rep. HR was lower than previous sessions but I think it's leftover fatigue from last week rather than it feeling easy. Also easier with the door open to keep things cooler.

Another fall of snow this morning so everywhere well covered and no chance of any quality running outside.

Scolty run with Ginie. Nice compacted snow most of the way but a few icy bits. Legs not too bad after the morning.

Monday Feb 8 #

7 AM

Note

Messing around with some cross country skiing the last few days. Just 30-40min bursts to practice the technique, mostly going to the fields at Woodend for a few laps. Managed to ski from the door this morning.
10 AM

Road Running 1:07:31 [2] 16.17 km (4:11 / km)

Treadmill on 2%. Lower legs and feet still tender so some smooth relaxed running was ideal. Foot felt a lot better by the end.
