Sunday Feb 28 #

Running, mostly off road 1:37:20 [2] 20.15 km (4:50 / km) +410m 4:23 / km

Easy Scolty and shooting greens loop. Early run in the frosty sunshine. Tired as expected but nothing particularly bad. Foot feeling much better.

Saturday Feb 27 #

Finally able to use the Deeside line between Aboyne and Ballater, still a few snow patches but didn't slow things much. Started easy then picked up slightly on the way to Ballater. Tried to keep a solid effort on the way back, not quite MP but not far off. From Dinnet I went on the road for the final 8km, found it tougher than the trail but it was a bit longer so meant getting 19.5km at the harder effort. A few of the later splits dropped off slightly but overall not too bad. Wore a race vest with some drinks and gels. Quite warm at points so was glad of the drinks.

Shooting greens and river loop with around 10 x 100m speed variations mixed in. Bruise less sore today but the rest of the foot is still flared up. Noticed it throughout although it was getting better towards the end.

Thursday Feb 25 #

Hill running 1:50:02 [2] 14.85 km (7:25 / km) +940m 5:38 / km

Abandoned Lochnagar run with Sam. Really strong wind and still a lot of icy snow which started early on. Got partway up the snow covered boulder field then came down and added in the pap and the corbett on the other side of the track for a bit of extra hill. Feet were frozen and most of the running was on snow, rocks or heather since the path was covered so it was bad for the ankles.

Easy Deeside line and Crathes loop. Noticed a big bruise/swelling on the outside of my foot after the hill run. Think I must have bashed it on a rock at some point. Frustrating thing is it's the dodgy foot and it's flared up some of the sore bits which have been really good the last few weeks. Felt the bruise for the first few minutes then just the usual foot/ankle pains after that.

Easy riverside and Blackhall path. Enjoying it a lot, trails drying out nicely and legs moving well.

Crathes single trail loop. Perfect evening loop in perfect weather. Few sloppy bits with snow melt but otherwise good.

Tuesday Feb 23 #

Road Running warm up/down 42:07 [2] 9.52 km (4:25 / km) +90m 4:13 / km

Warm up to the Lochton road and back. Finally ice free.

Road Running intervals 41:27 [5] 13.02 km (3:11 / km) +110m 3:03 / km

4 x ~3.25km (2'20" easy) as out and backs on the road. Windy and wet, it was meant to be a tailwind on the way out but it was swirling around. More sheltered than anywhere else though. First 2km of each rep was hilly and slow then there was a faster downhill 1km before the final 250m uphill again. Another average session ticked off.

Deeside line and Crathes loop. Legs way better than expected, felt good.

Monday Feb 22 #

Easy out and back along the river through the closed gate. Stiff legs for the first 2km but then a lot better. Some bits of trail washed out by the river flooding to leave rocks.
