Tiomila 2016 - the first big goal of the season as a team.
This year's 10mila was pretty close from Jukola's standards in term of arena, courses, forkings, and TV-coverage, i.e. high quality, despite not the most challenging terrain ever.
Thanks to the efforts of my teammates, I got, once again, the best starting position. Maybe not totally deserved as a team, but a couple of superb performances bring us back to the very top right before my start.
I decided to play right away my best card, when I saw we had different forking right from the start with Jonas (SNO), and tried to go for a solo run. Well, it worked for a short while and could enjoy a quiet forest in front of me, but also realized quite quickly that I hadn't the best legs of my life that morning. My
poor route to the 8th control ended my time alone in the lead.
Anyway, I think the superior speed of Eskil (IFK Göteborg) would have led to the same result (a trio in front) sooner or later. After having played already my best card, I realized I had not plenty of options left in my hands with a rather simple last 3 km. Eskil was doing most of the job in front, and I was in the back waiting for a mistake which never came. I raised the tempo toward the end of the course, and tried some different routes
to the two last controls - one was working quite well as I punched the second last control in the lead, but the other one pretty bad. I just won probably the best seat to see live the great sprint finish of Jonas.

Aw-Personal AnalysisAll this to say, I am still thinking how different I should have played this one, but with those legs (mine, and the ones on my map), I think I just have to be happy with the 3rd place. But in fact, it just hurt the same deep inside, as it has always been. This is a good enough reason to not quit, and to train smarter to have even better cards to play at Jukola already.
A team acting as a bridge over difficulties during the night…Note: No EOC starts next week for me. The reasons behind this choice, made earlier this spring, are to save some mental energy and offer more preparation´s days toward the only competition which really matter for me - the WOC in Strömstad. With this one being held later than usual, I wanted to compete a bit less in spring/early summer to still feel some hungriness later on. Also finally realized that all the even-numbered years (with EOC/WOC the same year thus), my WOC results had not been the best ones. Will give a try to change this bad habit.
