Note
OMM (B race) with Helena, today was a slog with a couple navigation mishaps due to very poor visibility (fog) all around. Most problems occurred when in or near the control circle--but couldn't find the controls anywhere as visibility varied from 10-30m at times. Luckily there were some kind people also experiencing difficulties so the B-peeps helped each other out a tad.
It was really mentally exhausting being the sole-navigator for the whole time, but good experience. A lot of choices came down to long route & easier climb versus slow, short route straight up the mountains. Helena was a fan of straight up and over, so we did that more often than not--but I really struggled on the steep climbs at times. Either way, the continued pace of everyone around us (most of the time only Helena) pulled me up and over.
Fuelling was really interesting, as normally one eats when hungry. However, eating was dictated by energy levels and it was so cool to be in touch with my body in that way. We normally ate/drank at every control or hour/hour and a half. Chocolate covered flapjacks were my fuel of choice as they were substantial, and I am not a fan of jelly babies/candies.
