Lovely morning. First on the water pre dawn and paddled up and down the river to Parteen weir holding a steady aerobic clip. 10k round trip with nothing but swans for company. The second lap saw the rowing crews hit the water. Regatta soon approaching so it was busy. River etiquette meant we had to hug the bank. A breeze blew up a little chop too. I wanted to hold the same pace as the first lap which we did at a higher energy cost due to wind and more steering. Had stroke rate on the watch so prompted Kate every once in a while and she kept a good rhythm throughout. The last 2km was over the weirs and again great fun depute scraping the bottom of the boat again. Very solid spin our longest and fastest. 6.2kmh may not seem much but it's a 38kg double sit on top and I sat in a pool of water at the back for the spin. Happy with the spin and the progress

We were pretty cold exiting the kayak. Quickly emptied it, racked it and set off running with wobbly legs. Slow fun run exploring each side of the bank via a footbridge. Some trail, some field and a little road at the end. Very enjoyable though Kate was just as cold after it. Watched a big group of kids getting kayak lessons before tackling some of the rapids we had just done. Their little piranhas looked so tiny!
400m warm up & drills 1,000m steady 5x 200m with 15-20s rest 5x 100m with 10 sec rest 100m mixed stroke cool down
This was a bit of an effort but glad to get a morning session done. Pace for 1k was 1:40, 200s was 1:38 -1:40, 100s was 1:32 - 1:36
Some traffic in the lane this morning including a guy who decided to walk, tap me on the shoulder mid length and ask if I wanted to keep my half of the lane while he did his thing! I jumped into the sauna after a very brief cold shower to be entertained by 2 very nice foul mouthed old guys discussing the arbituaries in the local paper. They were sitting on the bottom step and the least fould mouthed of the 2 was literally hanging his head over the coals. I could barely understand them and they are from my county! The travelling teams at ITERA will have a fun time deciphering the "English" language on the Wild Atlantic Way :-)
Warm up. Thought about treadmill for about a half second then jumped on the erg. Sweating
Strength1:10:00 [3]
Bit of a wait for machines so lots of random stretching. Surprised how poor my strength was. Generally rate it with chin ups. This was more about getting to know the gym again after so long. Aim to venture in once a week at least. Did bench press, lat pull down, leg press, db row, squats, shoulder press, planks and power cleans. All low weights and reps of 10-12. I want to be able to move tomorrow..
Been taking a few days off. Signs of an old hip injury. V annoying. Barely a few runs in the last 6 months. 5 years ago today I finished top 10 in the Connemara Marathon, one of the hilliest and toughest in Ireland. Ran 3:00:20 and cycled 100 miles home the next day. Today I'd struggle to hold that pace for 5 minutes. Not a happy camper :-(
