Note
slept:8.0 weight:81.2kg (injured)

A full 8 hour sleep!!

Team session and subsequent breakfast chat back at my gaff yesterday was all positive.

On the injury front: It was only a 10km paddle but 3 weeks after bone breaks and without pain was something.

The initial shoulder stiffness wore off after a half hour but I just had to be mindful of my RHS stroke as this is the main stress on the displacement. There was no significant loss of power but I didn't want to damage another 12 days of healing to come.

The main discomfort was the ribs. I was also wearing the figure of 8 bulky brace so that didn't help me relax. The tension in my back stiffened the intercostals. Another week will help as will the freedom without the brace (it comes off Friday Woop!). I'll get some KT tape applied on Monday.

The real decision though had to wait a few hours after the team left. It was the ribs that not painful but a little sore. I slept on them pain free though and 8 hours sleep always does wonders. Felt good this morning.
Back to work though and sitting at a desk not helping so I can see myself taking lap top home.

Either way I'm in for ITERA :-)

Just have to HTFU and manage the main risk. I have an excuse now to avoid the undoubtedly many gates, ditches and stream we will have to lift bikes over! I'll repay teh effort of teh twam if we find a chipper! My treat!

Paddling 1:52:23 [3] 10.51 km (5.6 kph)
slept:6.5

Short team paddle
A) Seeing if I can paddle - yep. Fig 8 brace restricted me and tensed back so ribs a bit sore. Need to really use core rotation right stroke and a less obstructive shoulder support like kenesio tape.
B) Messing with towing options. Stopped long enough each time to get chilly but at least we learned a couple of things

Happy to get through it. Fitness is still there at least. I'll see how I feel later

Trek (Portage) 19:09 [3] 1.92 km (6.0 kph) +10m
shoes: Soloman Speedcross 3 2016

Practice portage with the boats on a trolley. Worth doing as we learned best way to stack and tie etc..

The boys did the lifting and Kate helped balance, I just trotted along with them. Felt ok running, another week and more healing and I will feel better

Commute up to Fracture Clinic
Turns out I had multiple rib fractures. No sh!t it would have been nice to know 3 weeks ago. Anyway they are mending and it's a case of HTFU there

The 2 clavicle fractures are clinically healed as in non tender. He was poking it and moving my shoulder around. Showed it all in detail on his computer. If I was an older smoking man I'd have no hope but since I'm not they should heal fine. Chance of non union of sternum side break if I go nuts.

So arm sling off yay.
I can drive yay
Figure 8 sling on for another week boo
Back to work Monday meh

The only one that matters: ITERA?
My decision he says as he shakes my hand and wishes me luck "see you again the week after the race"

So an amber light. Meeting the team on Sunday to see if I can paddle. Then it's decision time

In other news Sven Nordenmark kindly sent me a new map holder as mine warped. Perhaps that was an omen. .

Walk 20:00 [1] 2.2 km (6.6 kph)

Another brisk walk. First one without the arm support. The milling rain earlier gave way to a beautiful evening. It's just before 9pm and I visualised just a couple of km to go on stage 1...

Conditioning (Mobility ) 20:00 [1]
slept:7.5 weight:81.9kg

Loosening wrist and elbow
Stretching chest
Bruising getting better. I can cough!

Concept 2 Erg (Mobility ) 12:00 [1] 1.8 km (9.0 kph)

100 paddle strokes slow and easy
100 rowing strokes slow and v easy avg 70 watts

1 day won't make a difference. I needed to know what my range of movement was. Got through this tiny bit with no pain. Just bruising discomfort. Paddle felt better than row. Partly because the figure of 8 brace got in the way and partly because the row had a greater ROM for the shoulder.

Walk 30:00 [1] 2.6 km (5.2 kph)
shoes: Soloman Speedcross 3 2016

Brisk walk in the rain

Out to run a chore. Breaking I'm new shoes

Conditioning (Mobility) 30:00 [1]

Sling off loosening up.
ITERA race schematic looks tasty. I was mad to hop on erg but resisted. Decision this weekend. Fracture clinic Thursday the meeting team Sunday.
