Sunday Apr 27

Running race 14:15:00 [1]53.0 mi (16:07 / mi) +1000m 9:28 / km
shoes: Asics Gel Mojave
Successfully completed the 53 mile Highland Fling Race along the West Highland Way. Particularly pleased with run over the first section to Balmaha where I came in 44th position. Was running well but very surprised to be this far up the field. Steady decline from there onwards but got to the end with a little time to spare! Others must have been running a more steady pace with fewers stops.

Tuesday Apr 22

Running 56:00 [3]6.0 mi (9:20 / mi)
shoes: Asics Gel Mojave
Lovely run over Blackford and through the Hermitage. First really spring like evening. Backside still sore but not a constraint. Again kept the pace gentle in prep for weekend. Felt pretty good this time.

Monday Apr 21

Running 16:00 [1]1.4 mi (11:25 / mi)
shoes: Mudroc 290
Bum still feeling sore from the bicycle fall so had to take it very easy. Just a gentle jog round the meadows to see how the injury felt - seemed to improve as I went round rather than get worse but nevertheless took the cautious approach and finished after 1 lap of Meadows.

Sunday Apr 20

Cycling 1:20:00 [2]
Out with Hannah and Alexander at Glentress. Two loops of the green trail and a run round the skills loop.

Fell off and hurt backside. Tried going for a jog later in the evening but too sore to do any serious running.

Saturday Apr 19

Running 1:03:00 [3]7.2 mi (8:44 / mi)
ahr:160 max:170 shoes: Brooks Adrenaline GTS 7
Decided not to do the HBT as I've been on poor form and a bit worried about overdoing it in a race. Instead went for a run along the canal. This went well keeping what felt like a decent pace the whole way.

Friday Apr 18

Running 39:39 [2]4.07 mi (9:44 / mi)
max:163 shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw O 330
Short easy run keeping HR below 160. Felt fine. Holding back in case I run in the Bog Trot tomorrow.

Sunday Apr 13

Running 4:30:00 [2]13.0 mi (20:45 / mi) +1000m 10:25 / km
shoes: Mudroc 290
Long training walk/run in the Pentlands. Started at the lower carpark at Hillend before taking something close to the Pentland Skyline route through to the Kips. Then to Green Hill and Spittal Hill and then down to the Esk Reservoir. From there to Carlops and a meal with family at the Allan Ramsay.

Felt in pretty good form. Took it very easy and walked all the ascents. Feet just starting to feel the strain at the end with a few rough spots starting to develop.

Weather was kind and really enjoyed it.
Cycling 40:00 [3]
Cycle to and from Hillend for the walk.

Saturday Apr 12

Running 51:05 [3]4.5 mi (11:20 / mi) +75m 6:42 / km
shoes: Asics Gel Mojave
Short run with Max. Started at Harrison Park where Hannah was footballing. Along the canal and through Craiglockhart Hill and back. Very gentle pace. Felt fine having been very stressed out all week.
Orienteering race 41:36 [2]*** 4.7 km (8:51 / km)
spiked:8/12c shoes: Mudroc 290
Went across to CatiO at Corstorphine Hill. Tried to go steady and had pretty good run. A few small mistakes.

Sunday Apr 6

Running 33:00 [1]3.3 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: Asics Gel Mojave
Not feeling great so took it very easy. Have been down to Dumfries for 3 days. No strenuous exercise but on my feet a lot so quite tiring. Today's run seemed ok.

3 weeks away from the Highland Fling Race. The training build up has been poor and the whole year so far has been pretty low on form and racing. Need one last long outing next weekend as final preparation.

Wednesday Apr 2

Running 1:09:48 [4]9.1 km (7:40 / km) +475m 6:05 / km
shoes: Mudroc 290
Best run in a very long time. Nice hill run in daylight - first again for quite some time. Ran the Holyrood Park 6 peaks route and managed to get round the whole way without stopping. Felt great.

Tuesday Apr 1

Running 1:18:00 [3]8.43 mi (9:15 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline GTS 7
Nice run along the Thames from Guomon Towers along the South Bank to Vauxhall Bridge(?) and back. Took it fairly easily and seemed generally in pretty decent form. Legs held up quite well although still feeling a little overused.
