Sunday Jun 29

Running race 5:10:00 [4]28.0 mi (11:04 / mi) +700m 6:23 / km
shoes: Asics Gel Mojave
Lairig Ghru Race. Started very nicely up the road and along the first section of trail. Started to tire after the river crossing but kept a reasonable pass on the rough flat section on the way towards Pools of Dee. When the gradient steepened I eased back to a walk for several miles. Made quicker progress over the boulders this year with relatively good weather. Long section after that was tough - difficult to get into a settled pace. Struggled through the forest but once into Rothiemurchas I stuck at it with a slow but steady pace. Made good progress on the last section of road. Very pleased to have run the last 6 or 7 miles of such a long race without stopping. Shaved 5 minutes off last years time which I was very pleased with.

Thursday Jun 26

Running 33:00 [2]3.57 mi (9:15 / mi)
ahr:143 max:157 shoes: Asics Gel Mojave
Gentle run through streets. Started late and also starting to ease into the long Lairig Ghru on Sunday.

Wednesday Jun 25

Running race 13:59 [5]2.0 mi (7:00 / mi) vdot: 43.8
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline GTS 7
Meadows 2 Mile Race - achieved target for June of running 2 miles in 14 minutes. Pace felt very slow in first mile and was embarrassingly near the back of field. 7.08 at 1 mile. Picked up pace thereafter and starting passing a few. Real push at the end to just come under 14. Should really be able to do around 20 secs faster.

Sunday Jun 22

Running tempo 24:05 [4]3.11 mi (7:45 / mi)
ahr:161 max:167 shoes: Brooks Adrenaline GTS 7
Fairly hard tempo run.

Also walked 6 miles with Hannah on the Great Scottish Walk.
Running warm up/down 15:00 [1]1.67 mi (9:00 / mi)

Saturday Jun 21

Running tempo 27:00 [4]3.56 mi (7:35 / mi) +50m 4:31 / km
ahr:162 max:169 shoes: Brooks Adrenaline GTS 7
Nice run on the roads and paths to the far end of Holyrood park and back. Legs feeling a bit stiff but got on fine.
Running warm up/down 15:00 [1]1.58 mi (9:29 / mi)

Friday Jun 20

Running 1:08:19 [3]7.59 mi (9:00 / mi) +300m 4:59 / km
shoes: Mudroc 290
Feeling really tired after another long week at work - and working all day last saturday certainly has a longer term hit to energy. Anyway - sun shining so out for a fabulous loop round all the peaks in Holyrood Park. Kept going almost all the way round with just one short walk on the ascent to Whinny Hill. The city looks so great on a day like this. Ran pretty well and had a good fast spell through the Meadows at the end.

Wednesday Jun 18

Running race 6:24 [5]1.0 mi (6:24 / mi) vdot: 45.0
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline GTS 7
Meadows Mile Race - felt terribly slow going round the course. Decent pick up at the end. Time a bit slower that best.

Max got round under his target time in 7,25

Tuesday Jun 17

Running tempo 40:00 [4]4.5 mi (8:52 / mi)
ahr:162 max:168 shoes: Brooks Adrenaline GTS 7
20 minute warm up run with Max and then a 22 minutes temp run.

Sunday Jun 15

Orienteering race 1:49:00 [3]**** 9.8 km (11:07 / km) +250m 9:52 / km
spiked:20/22c shoes: Mudroc 290
Pretty pleased with the run today. 2 moderate mistakes but generally fairly accurate. A lot of fairly grotty forest so hard to get much speed up. Went on some long routes via roads so will be interesting to see how others tackled these. Results not in yet.

Friday Jun 13

Running 53:54 [2]404.25 mi (8 / mi) +75m 5 / km
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline GTS 7
Shattered. A very long hard week at work left me feeling really tired. Went out for a relaxed run on the roads round Holyrood park. Fabulous - nice weather and ran nice and smooth at a steady pace. Felt much better afterwards.

Monday Jun 9

Running 15:00 [3]1.0 mi (14:59 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline GTS 7
Short interval session with Max

Sunday Jun 8

Running race 45:10 [5]10 km (4:31 / km) vdot: 45.1
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline GTS 7
Fantastically good run at the Dechmont Law Trail race. After struggling all year to come anywhere near PBs I smashed my best 10k time by almost 2 minutes. Really like the race which has just the right number of participants and runs over an interesting mixed terrain course with lots of twists and turns.

Ran without HR and didn't pay any attention to pace or times until I hit the half way mark in just under 21 minutes. Used the other runners to drive my pace along.

Good prep beforehand with stretching and gentle warm-up jog. Don't normally pay much attention to this - something I must do on all shorter races to warm-up properly.

Running 42:53 [1]4.0 mi (10:43 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline GTS 7
Slow run with Max along canal

Saturday Jun 7

Orienteering 40:00 [1]4.8 km (8:20 / km) +50m 7:55 / km
shoes: Asics Gel Mojave
Gentle run at the CATI at Mary Erskine. Went round with Max for 3/4 of course with pretty good navigation. He gave up around control 14 and I finished the last bit on my own. One mistake.

Thursday Jun 5

Running 59:53 [2]6.57 mi (9:07 / mi) +165m 5:15 / km
ahr:149 max:166 shoes: Asics Gel Mojave
Braids and Blackford - through the golf courses. Nice evening. Feet felt a bit sore to start but fine once I got going. Felt I was putting a reasonable effort in but HR remained fairly low throughout.

Tuesday Jun 3

Running 45:00 [1]4.5 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: Asics Gel Mojave
Early morning 5.45 am run at Turnberry. Slow and easy with some beach running.

Sunday Jun 1

Running 55:20 [4]5.09 mi (10:51 / mi) +200m 6:01 / km
ahr:149 max:173 shoes: Asics Gel Mojave
Went out planning a longish easy run but decided it was too nice a morning not to get up in the hills so ran up to summit of Arthurs Seat and did the three peaks. Felt good and ran all the way up without stopping. Park was busy with the Run for Life. Great fun running down the hill at speed. On the way back felt very good so decided to do some speed bursts which were excellent.

Really great workout. Surprised I was in such good form after a race yesterday.
