Junior run with the Carnethy crew. Hannah struggled so took her back early. About an hour out but mainly a brisk walk.

Starting to feel a bit under the weather - feels like a cold coming on.

Fabulous race at Beecraigs. This is a superb annual Boxing Day run with a course that has almost everything. Great varied terrain and pleasant sceneria that mixes forest trails, lakeshore and short sharp hilltop. And all for free.

Did the single loop this year to give a race something closer to the 4 m New Years Day run. Didn't really feel I was able to give much pace for most of the race. Excellent finish though.

Gym session. Tried for 4 miles on the treadmill but blew out at half way. Took the pace right down for the third mile and then ran a sound final mile. Also did a good rowing session and an easy ski.

Sunday Dec 23

Run round the 6 peaks of Holyrood route. Substituted Radical Road for Cat Nick at the end. Ran all the uphills which was great. Nice clear night. Felt very good and felt fine after what was a good long session.

5 x 4 min intervals. Good form.

shoes: Walsh PB Ultra
Walk from Swanston to summit of Allermuir with Max. Cold day with a bit of cloud cover at the top obscuring the views.

Walshs are pish even for walking.

Tuesday Dec 18

Good gym session. Feeling very tired and stressed after work but managed a good hard session. 15 m ski then 5 x 1 km running intervals. Variable pace from 4 to 5 mins each.

shoes: Asics Gel Mojave
Esk run with Carnethy. Ran from Musselburgh to Penicuik and missed out the last stretch to Carlops. Very cold weather but very enjoyable. Pretty good form. Slow pace all the way except the last 3 miles where a group at the front hammered home at a pretty solid pace.

Another run round Holyrood park, same route as Sunday. Not so good this time. Walsh shoes still don't feel good. Lights from Meadowbank also not conducive to a nice run. Stalled a few times on the uphill segments.

Ran 4 miles on treadmill. 30 min 30 sec. Started at 12 km/h for first mile, upped to 12.2 for second then around 12.6 for 3rd and then 13 and upwards during last mile. Pretty good throughout with a real push at the end. Not sure how I can get time down to target of 28 min ?

Weekend was put out of kilter by Hannah going down with a tummy bug overnight. I missed the club champs in the morning and didn't feel great all day having been woken up around 5 am. Wasn't hopeful when I went out this evening so took it nice and easy. Went pretty well though. Kept going at a moderate pace for an hour and whilst I avoided any long climbs I managed to keep running on the uphill bits.

Friday Dec 7

Dreadful session. Wanted to run 4 miles in around 30 minutes. Set off at this pace but flagged after about 1 mile. Felt really tired and couldn't even run at 10 km/h pace on second attempt. Did 35 minutes of the ski and cycle machines. Guess suffering a bit from long stressful week at work and poor sleep last night.

Tuesday Dec 4

Oh dear! Another really poor run round the Meadows intervals. Slowest ever by a long shot. Not much of a crowd out so not too much encouragement to keep the pace up. 20,21,23,43,13. Maybe tired after previous two days sprint races.

Monday Dec 3

Hard gym session. 2 x 1 miles at 7 min mile pace. 15 mins ski, 15 mins cycle and file 1 mile at 8 mm pace. Good form although had meant to run 4 fast miles and had to pull out at start of third.

Glasgow 3 Parks Champs. Really poor performance - bad navigation on courses 1 & 3 lost lots of time.
