6hrs Specifc Endurance (Track)

First real hard frost of the year with some ice meant I had no access to the track early and didn't want to wait around for it to thaw so I headed straight to the canal...

Overall I am disappointed with the run, how I felt.


After a good start enjoying the cold and the running feeling easy I took a walk break for 5 mins after 3 hours which is normal for me in these long races to stretch out and just change my gait for a few mins...I think its important when there are no hills.

Then after 4 hours I could feel niggles/tightness's creep in at the four hour mark that shouldn't be there and haven't been on the other long runs

My big muscle groups glutes/hamstrings felt tired and then my left group especially gave me some trouble meaning I had to work a little harder than I would have liked in the last two hours

After 5 hours me neck had definitely stiffened because I turned to look at a canal boat and it felt almost like a sharp cramp....I could really feel it driving home and Saturday morning too so will get more treatment

hopefully I can iron all this out in the next few weeks

Positives - Nutrition was good using the same combination as in the last few runs eating on the hour every hour.

- No issues on Saturday morning apart from tiredness and a bit of discomfort in left glute

- The sun was out and I got to run in a t shirt even though it was -1 degrees.

Flat park trails. felt OK but could feel yesterdays run (that wasn't planned) in my legs a bit.

Not on the plan but felt like doing a good steady run to get my legs going after a week of just going through the motions....

Felt fine so good to pick up training properly depending on advice regarding the plan.

Felt pretty comfortable running steady at that pace on quiet lanes

Easy coaching session - hammering with rain and sleet....not ideal for running this slow but no neck issues and felt better today than I had last few days.

Had more treatment and he could get in to it a bit deeper this time and my shoulder feels looser.

There was no way I fancied the 6 hour run today but left it to that morning to make a decision...I felt a little head achey after the treatment and a bit bruised still

Instead I did a run on rolling trails before meeting up with friends to run/hike and did a relaxing 3.5 hours instead.

Some of my friends even commentated that my shoulder looked "not normal" when I was running.....everyone's and expert! they were right though I could feel it while running....more treatment booked for Monday AM.
