3hrs Specifc Endurance (+/- 1000m to 1500m) + 60' Moderate (FFLR)

Had planned to go in to Snowdonia and run from Llanberis finishing with the 8km route around Lake Padarn.....

With the stormy weather I decided to stay closer to home in the Clwydians...it just meant finding an hour of flatter ground to finish was a bit more difficult

The first hour was all climbing and as I got higher it was snow underfoot and some strong winds (only 560m but that was enough for the changes in weather).....just 10 minutes later and the sun was out making me too warm and this was the theme for about 2 hours as I was either going up or down..

Third hour was more rolling and the weather was more stable so I could relax a little.

Nutrition was spot on

I did feel a little tired in the legs going in to the last hour but once I got going in the 'moderate' phase I actually felt good again.

It was a net downhill which helped but still some climbing and the last two miles I was running at 7min miles.

Felt good to work my legs a bit....in the past I would run out of energy or strength before my legs would ache but the last few longer runs I was felt my legs hurting a bit before I was out of breathe/energy.

Car parked outside a cafe which has a vegetarian chef so lunch was good!

Half term so met up with Charl and Winter for a walk afterwards.
2 PM

walking (walk) 1:00 [2] 2.6 mi (23 / mi) +56m 22 / mi
shoes: Salomon Speed

Walk through the woods after lunch with family...had to carry Winter on my back for an hour so was pretty tiring after the morning effort.

trail running (easy) 1:00:00 [2] 5.2 mi (11:32 / mi) +157m 10:33 / mi
shoes: vivo primus trail

45' Easy + 6 x Hill Sprints

Storm Doris hit today so running was not easy......the wind nearly took my legs out a few times but found a gap in the rain to get the session done

I live at about 280m high and pretty exposed so the wind was hitting hard.

The hill sprints were done on a steepish field but were a bit of a struggle with one or two of the reps basically running on the spot half way through battling the head wind. Effort level was there though....

5 PM

trail running (work/regen) 59:00 [2] 5.8 mi (10:10 / mi) +26m 10:02 / mi
shoes: Altra Lone Peak

Group coaching session and some drills.....freezing, windy, sleet, dark, branches flying around.

60' Easy + Technical Exercises (Maintenance)

Miserable weather and legs felt a little tired but fine once we gt going...

Its half term so n clients meant I could get out with the dog for a run.

Only 6 miles but across very wet fell/moorland ankle deep in mud sometimes and the Altra lone peak were not the right choice of shoe.

Enjoyable run though with a mix of sleet/wind and sunshine breaking through

Drove home 10 mins away and did the maintenance drills out the back...no chance I could do them up on the moors.

6 PM

trail running (work/regen) 52:00 [1] 4.2 mi (12:23 / mi) +91m 11:36 / mi
shoes: vivo primus trail

Easy coaching session with the group - no issues

trail running (Fartlek ) 1:14:00 [4] 10.1 mi (7:20 / mi) +67m 7:11 / mi
shoes: Adidas Boston

20' Easy + Fartlek: 15 x 1' Hard / 1' Roll-on + 20' Easy

Went to the canal with perfect running conditions, dry hard packed trail a few degrees warmer and no wind

The 20 minute easy went pretty quick then on to the 1 min Hard/Roll on...

I had not done these before so just only looked at the timer rather than pace and kept in my mind that the 'recovery' was the important bit making sure I kept the effort higher than normal on these minutes.

It all felt pretty good going in and out of the efforts....

Maybe I didn't push hard enough in the reps but felt good (although working hard) after 15 so ended up doing 17 reps instead.....maybe I shouldn't have but it was a good opportunity.

Still had 20 min Easy at the end too.

Enjoyable session
6 PM

trail running (progressive run) 1:15:00 [3] 9.2 mi (8:09 / mi) +214m 7:36 / mi
shoes: Altra Lone Peak

90' Progressive Running

Session was only 75 mins in the end I had ran over with work and had to be back home......no flat running where I was either so it was based on undulating trails and open fell.

75 mins was probably a good thing though it took me at least 20 mins to warm up and was feeling very tired in the legs by the end left from Friday

The terrain didn't make things easier the Altras are not grippy on the grass but forgot a change of shoe.... would have been ok I think on flat trails or the canal
