Hiking 40:00 [3] 2.1 mi (19:03 / mi) +550m 10:30 / mi
shoes: Inov8 X Talon 200

Annual Jubilee Plunge Fell Race.. not in the plan but visiting friends close by and its a bit of festive fun

Its a downhill only fell race from the top of Moel Famau back down to a pub garden...

Hiked up with friends.

2 PM

fell race (race) 11:50 [5] 2.1 mi (5:38 / mi)
shoes: Inov8 X Talon 200

Forgot how crazy that race is after a few years missing out on it...

You have to go full gas from the start to get a decent line off the treacherous summit start

No route just every man for himself but the top 10 or so all know the best line..

Finished 3rd behind two handy runners in N/Wales Mark Corrales ans Stephen Skates who passed me on the only flat section of the ridge then I closed the gap to within spitting distance on the technical stuff.

The ground was VERY wet / muddy and the sprint across the last flat field was almost a comedy in ankle deep mud....its the only time I slipped though!

trail running (long run) 2:45:00 [3] 14.8 mi (11:09 / mi) +800m 9:33 / mi
shoes: Inov8 X Talon 200

Not from plan but woke up to hard ice on the roads so road/canal running was out the question.

Also feel too tired to give it welly in a session but I did have the morning to myself while the others had visitors so I went to the annual Coed Y Brenin meet up and ran with some friends.

Very easy first 90 minutes then ran off on my own for a steady 75 with the dog in tow.

Just wanted to have a relaxed session really as sleep is very broken.

Note
(rest day)

No running - Wilder born Xmas Day, works quite well I guess and glad I got the long run done on Xmas Eve.

9 AM

Canal Path (long run) 2:31:00 [4] 21.1 mi (7:09 / mi) +175m 6:59 / mi
shoes: Adidas Boston

2hrs 30' Moderate

Down on the canal.......

Went well (i think) considering I paced the whole thing on effort.

Recorded on my phone in my waist belt and the splits were all pretty consistent within 6:52 and 7:05 per mile once I had warmed up...took me 3 miles to get down to 7 min per mile so that gave me a negative split.

I haven't ever done a flat run for that long at that pace so I had some music ready to play incase the wheels fell off.

I listened to it for the last hour and it might have helped...might not.

I didn't really hit the wall energy wise, might take a bit if water next time but apart from that i was OK.

Although the pace didn't drop my form definitely wasn't as smooth in the last 30 mins with some aches coming in glute/hamstring but not enough to slow me down obviously.

Glad to get a long one in....
