road running (moderate running) 2:48:00 [3] 24.0 mi (7:00 / mi) +175m 6:51 / mi
shoes: Adidas Boston
Perfect conditions for running at least for the first 75 mins then the wind got up and it was pretty blustery....
That combined with my route taking in the odd gradual climb meant it was all good training for Malta I guess.
Did like you said and ran with just the time showing but I did check the pace about every 30 mins...After an hour I realised that maybe it was a little quick but found it fine.
Think you can check my strava for splits? but they were all pretty even....
Fuelling went well I think from sat night through to the gels from the start.
Because I was just running and not looking at the time too much the gels were more like every 25 mins but I managed 5 in the run which is more than I have ever had and no issues with stomach/gut or energy (apart from what would be expected I guess)
Why did I stop short of 3 hours?
I had run out of road really getting close to the car sooner than I had planned so my head started thinking about stopping, plus I didn't know if you would want me to basically run a marathon in 3 hours before the race?
It was more that the car was too tempting though really knowing I still had to walk the dog which provided a nice 1.5 walk/run cool down on the fields rather than road.
Back to the run - I did have a bit of a dip around 2 hour mark thinking that I was working harder but in reality I think I stated to speed up a little...
That was the case in the last few miles too.....
Happy with the run and even felt the sun on my face for most of the morning.
Tired legs and body afterwards but nothing too bad and feel fine today (Monday)
