trail running 2:20:00 [3] 27.17 km (5:09 / km) +949m 4:23 / km

2hr SE fasted

Much better this morning when starting out so knew it would be a better run, I wore the SLAB Sense SG and something about that shoe always makes me run at more of a race effort than others....

I chose a route that would take me away from the forest as soon as possible to keep it interesting and it took 30 minutes to run up and over the top which is over 300m climb ....by the hour mark I had nearly hit the 600m mark so not the right gradient for a trail marathon I guess but was a good effort all the way through..

Energy wise I hit a 15% 10 min hill at around 1:45 and this was the first time I had to concentrate due to no fuelling but I knew once over the top it was downhill

I did have a gel with me that I thought I may need after 2hrs to get me home but resisted that and pushed on knowing the effort was a bit of a tight rope but good practice running hungry.

The route took 2hr 20 so not far off the estimation and included a bit of a push downhill to home ....

The glute issue was actually much better, wasn't an issue apart from feeling a bit tight up the last hill I mentioned , my whole left side didn't feel perfect after that with my stride a little shortened but no real pain / discomfort.

I am in to see Duncan on Thursday

trail running 1:30:00 [3] 16.78 km (5:22 / km) +449m 4:44 / km
shoes: INOV8 Terra Ultra G270

2 hrs SE fasted.

Had a rough night sleep, we 'treated' the kids to a fish and chips takeaway on the Friday .... I didn't even eat that much but had weird nightmares all night and Winter had the same so got up with her a few times.

As soon as I got going I knew it wasn't going to be great, sluggish and bloated feeling.

Can't remember the last time we did something like that for tea as its at least 30 minutes to drive to a takeaway but won't be happening again in a hurry.

it wasn't too bad just felt like shit the whole time.

Anyway my glute was aching a bit too so did what I could for 90 minutes then had called it a day with a view to a better day Sunday.

cycling 50:00 [1]

Went on the bike for 50 minutes before tea but didn't use Zwift, some friends were on and to be honest I just couldn't be arsed joining them so did my own thing - much better than this morning after a day of normal eating.

road running 1:20:00 [3] 18.0 km (4:27 / km) +253m 4:09 / km
shoes: Hoka Rocket X

Moderate plus strides.

Fucking freezing.

The first 2 km was a bit sketchy with black ice but then you join a better road ...still had to be pretty careful with the odd tip toe but generally good running.

I had a woolly hat and gloves on but didn't really warm up the whole way.

Strides were not much fun as although they went OK the recovery was colder each time and by the last one the rest had reduced to around 30s I think but I couldn't feel my fingers with decent gloves on.

I got home and it said -4 at 11am so that will be why.

Definitely an ache in the glute towards the end and afterwards.

shoes: INOV8 Terra Ultra G270

60' Easy + 6 x Hill Sprints

Forest very cold today but felt good and the sprints went well, perfect gradient for fast confident ones ... on the last one I suddenly had my legs want to give up about half way so had to push through a bit

cycling 45:00 [1]

Easy effort meet up with a friend before tea

trail running 1:58:00 [3] 23.05 km (5:07 / km) +622m 4:31 / km
shoes: INOV8 Terra Ultra G270

2 hr SE fasted

A bit late for me fasted but couldn't be avoided , though it would be better to risk bonking than taking the easy option and eating.

There are just some small areas of ice left now on the forest trails which are easily negotiated as it hasn't stopped raining now for nearly 2 days.

Got going pretty well and the hunger feeling left me, climbed well and relaxed with 400m of the climb in the first hour then more runnable and that felt easy enough.

From 90 minutes its all downhill and that felt good also until I got to the bottom with time to spare and short of vert so turned round to hit them both....I suddenly had the energy drain from me now and after a minute of coming to terms with that I was OK and ran in the last 15 mins.

The ache in the glute injury was noticeable though towards the end and on the dog walk afterwards .

I am not too worried but I am going back to Duncan to hopefully nip it in the bud now. Will update you any development there

road running 1:19:00 [3] 17.07 km (4:38 / km) +384m 4:10 / km
shoes: Hoka Rocket X

80 moderate + strides

Run home from the the car garage which is all on road and uphill apart from the last 5km so just had to go by effort - felt strong enough but had a full pack on my back too from getting changed.

Just made sense to do it as a session rather than drag the family out to collect me.

Strides were OK , nothing special after the long run uphill.

road running 1:16:00 [2] 12.5 km (6:05 / km) +177m 5:41 / km
shoes: Hoka Rocket X

Easy + strides

First KM or so the road is still covered in ice but then its mostly ok and kept it easy until the one flat part of the route about half way.

its perfect for strideouts so did them mid run and they felt good before going back , even in that time the rain had washed more ice away so the lanes will be clear by tomorrow.
