Orienteering race (BOC) 1:24:00 [4] 8.4 km (10:00 / km) +245m 8:44 / km
+ves: ran well when possible to run; no pain at all anywhere (thank you Celebrex); despite being very gunky requiring much on-course expulsion, cold didnt hold me back; didn't get hailed on; only fell over once; didn't injure myself. Most importantly though, I enjoyed orienteering again, & I'm keen for more :-)
-ves: didn't navigate, didn't look at my compass at all, seemed to find all the knee-deep black mud bogs, struggled to understand mapping (I'm being polite)
23mins errors, 17 of which wouldn't have happened had I chosen to navigate, 6 of which would have happened regardless given the controls were in bingo locations in areas where the map was just too "interpretive" for me to follow.
Great area for BOC. The slow times I suspect relate to both the unforgiving tussock grass, and the mapping given all of the comments I overhead in the finish. It sure would have been tough finding control locations as course planner.
