Joined what I'd been promised would be a friendly club ride in Essex today. In reality, it was 45mins of enjoyable group riding in some nice hills followed by 3hrs of unenjoyable & demoralising surging & TT'ing across rolling roads. I was a wreck after 40k unable to sustain anything (other than anger), so luckily we had a stop at Tip Tree tea rooms for cake at 50k, but I barely made it back afterwards. Was supposed to be 80k, so I was particularly p'd off when it just went on and on. Dave basically sat outside me for the last 40k pushing me with his hand on my back. I guess that's like having a motor in your bike.
