Orienteering race (TVOC club champs) 1:42:15 [3] *** 11.77 km (8:41 / km) +237m 7:54 / km

Nominal 7.1km, 125m climb

Amongst my worst orienteering ever, aside from the bad back and waterlogged forest. Nothing on the ground seemed to match what I saw on the map, particularly in the north on the Common where I went so well last time I was here.

+20min wandering around to find #3, +3min to #4, then another +12min to find #5. After that, not too bad but multiple attempts to find #15 and #17. Stepped in a 'little' stream on the way to #18 that comedically and unexpectedly went up to my waist!

Amazed to find I was only 37th of 51, a few were worse than me and there were some retirements, in frustration, no doubt. There's also a bubble in my compass now :-/

Orienteering race (Cambridge City Race) 47:44 [4] *** 8.84 km (5:24 / km) +48m 5:15 / km
ahr:150 max:157 spiked:16/20c

Cambridge City Race, course 1. Nominal 6.6km

No major blunders, just a bit slow. Lower back very sore - put it out picking up my shopping in Tesco yesterday! (Getting old sucks.) Poor in and out of #4 (+20s). There was probably a shorter route for the long leg to #6. A bit of a route choice dither on the way to #8 (+20s), and also to #12 (+20s). Perhaps possible to run down the edge of the map to #8. Wet feet in and out of #9. R to #20 when L would've been a bit quicker (I had to dodge through a lacrosse game).

47th/81 (2nd M55, but miles behind first: 41:54. As you'd expect here, loads of fast M21s!)
