Orienteering race 1:00:52 [3] 3.7 km (16:27 / km)

Brown course. Pretty good run except felt slow after yesterday. The woods at Pawtuck seem slower these days because of more blowdowns from ice, wind, and rain in past few years. I often found it hard to hold a straight line. No real problems. But when I got to #8 it had the wrong code, I thought. After vetting it I punched and went on; then thought to check the course at the top of my control descriptions - oops - Green. How did I get through seven controls without knowing? Turns out 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 were the same, and I must not have checked codes at 1 and 7.

Orienteering 47:00 [1] * 1.2 km (39:10 / km)
spiked:1/1c

Radio O for the first time, with Suzanne. Nice for her; she could tell which way to go without needing to read a map.

Orienteering 50:00 [1] 2.0 km (25:00 / km)

Picked up white controls with Suzanne. Just realized while writing this that we missed one. Quick call to Pete, who says thanks to Olafsen's they got it. Whew - its a bit more expensive leaving epunch controls in the woods than it used to be in the old days.

Orienteering race 1:28:47 [3] *** 5.2 km (17:04 / km)
14c

Green course. Road from 2 to 3, but pretty hesitant attacking. Missed 5 a liitle to right. Spiked 7 but lost six minutes !!! How?? After a very hesitant leg, not in good contact, I came on a small pond with a control next to it - it couldn't be mine, which had no blue near it, so I spent considerable time trying unsuccessfully to match its shape to the various blue spots on the map. Bob Lux and another runner came through, punching it, and I assumed they were on a different course - even though Bob told me earlier he was running Green. I wandered northward and came toward a small marsh and finally realized that I had been at my control all along. So much for not checking the code on the control. A careful look at the map after finishing showed a small depression - filled with water. Slow at 13 with several other little unmapped reentrants.

Walk/Hiking/Snowshoe 30:00 [1] 2.0 km (15:00 / km)

Walked to Pawtuckaway beach and back twice looking for my family. Felt pretty tired.

Final day of a frantic week fixing up the house. It's "on the market" at $185,000. Anyone interested in a White Mountain home??
