Spinning 1:13:58 [2]

Rest day ride. Didn’t plan on training today because thought the 30+ degree heat would be too much but after lunch decided a nice hour or so ride would be nice. Cycling is nowhere near as grim as running in this kind of heat so wasn’t too bad at all. Just a little unpleasant on the exposed climbs.

A sizzling hour along the bridleway. Mid 20s in the shade but probably a lot hotter in the exposed bits. Wearing the old NB’s as I reckon they’re a little nicer for the calf (more drop) and they’ve still got at least another 300km left in them. First half was really pleasant, second half was a bit of a slog as it gradually got hotter. Stomach went and nearly shit myself. Nightmare.

10km Tempo (1k on/1k off)

Wasn’t originally going to do a session as still on antibiotics but saw this as the Pollard session for the week and it mentally looked quite easy so thought I’d give it a crack. Hit paces quicker than I was aiming to hit and kept it nice and consistent. Honest work and happy to finish. Wasn’t too bad as was able to recover decently on the offs allowing me to hit low 3’s on the ons. Stomach cramping a little still. On a 600m loop so likely paces are a couple of seconds out although I reckon being in milage shoes on dewy grass makes them fairly representative. Old man complemented me on my cadence, made me blush.

Down. Top came straight off. Absolutely roasting.

Note
(rest day)

Going to try out a new structure to the week. Rest day Monday and Thursday. Sessions on a Tuesday and a Friday. Gives me a day of easy running between session and long run. The last 2 micro niggle/injurys (call them what you will) that I've got over the last couple of months have come about after my SLR so reckon this switch up could limit "overdoing it."

Unbelievably affordable mileage along the canal. Been a while since 4:00/ks have felt that easy. Felt good so went with it. Huuuuuge mileage this week.

Rounding off my biggest cycling week ever. Nothing to write home about but a solid week for me. Just happy I found the motivation to get this amount of cross training done. Looking forward to normal training next week! Got stung by a bee near the end which wasn’t fun. Thought it was a wasp at first but then pulled the stinger out when I got home, nasty.

Anyway hope all enjoyed seeing my name a little higher up the hours leaderboard. Time to head back down to the bottom. See ya.

Easy canal. Didn’t feel nearly this fast, felt nice and relaxed. Pretty much nothing from the calf. Happy nobbie!

Spinning 1:07:30 [2]

Chill castle comb loop with Themis. Not feeling too shabby.

Easy 25mins. Feeling good and heart rate pleasingly low. Very few complaints from the calf just a bit tight to start. Enjoyed the post rain mist coming up from the tarmac, very atmospheric.

Spinning 2:37:28 [2]

Big ol ride out to Malmesbury with Themis. Think this was my second longest ride ever (69km) and it was on a hybrid in trainers. Felt really good in the first half, felt the bonk coming in the second half with the headwind not helping. Luckily a zesty orange got me through the last 45mins. Really enjoyable ride and managed to find a nice window in the weather.
