Goatfell - 1st

Another hot one, however, I had learnt some lessons from last week. Key one was to warm up.

Solo from the gun basically. Was sensible not to overdo it on the first 2.5km flat, rolling some 3:20s. Felt decent on the lower slopes so kept the foot down but again was mindful not to push it with the heat. Felt pretty good right up to the ridge, but as soon as the gradient steepened in the last 5-10mins of the climb, I started feeling the heat/bonk get to me.

Over the top, Pedley informed me that I had a decent gap so was able to be cautious down the tecky bit of the descent. Went for a dip in the only streem available about half way down, was getting fairly overheated at that point. Only started feeling really dodgy once I hit the flat road where I started feeling on the edge of catastrophic bonk. Put the t-shirt over the head and deployed the safety car for the last 2km. Just about made it home. Thank goodness.

Nice to get a win. Pretty uninspiring time but think was solid enough given the heat. Never felt like I was racing, more managing/nursing the body. Think I got the most out of myself on the day though so overall quite happy to bounce back after last weekends catastrophe.

Carnthey Handicap on the Seat

Spent the day in Glasgow at a conference so was feeling a bit lethargic going into this, but was keen to put out a good effort after Saturday. Good up the steep climb over Nether - caught Rodrigo on the descent down to Dunsapie, but then had a complete brain fart in Meadowfield Park, taking a terrible line having to double back on myself. Climb up Whinnie was more controlled then a bit slippy on the descent. Started to see Kieren coming up the bog but took a different line up the crags following JT - unfortunately into another banana of a line. Lost site of Kieran as a result but actually started feeling pretty good on the climb and over the top. Good effort up Galloping Glen and managed to reign in all the boys except Dash who just pipped me at the end. Good solid effort. Probabaly 30sec to 1min slower due to the shit lines but managed to salvage fastest time, happy days.
