2015 Victorian Sprint Distance Championships
RMIT Bundoora
M21A 1st
I always enjoy a new map, and this was another good area for sprint distance orienteering. The map was great - accurate and easy to read.
I was very happy with my race today. I think I made good decisions on all of the route choices, and I felt quite fast across the ground - especially in the second half of the race. I started a little cautiously, thinking that there could be some tricky parts. There was some complexity from 5 through to 9, but nothing too tricky. From there I tried to pick up the pace and push myself harder. I had a good look at the map across the athletics track. I was still making good decisions at this higher pace, so I gave it as much as I could on the last 6 or 7 controls (shown by a number of winning splits) when others may have been tiring.
I think taking it easy on the hilly legs yesterday was a good tactic, as I was strong all the way today.
I was very satisfied with my 6th Victorian Sprint Championships in Men's Open class since they began in 2004.
