A great finish to my Easter. I was very satisfied with this run. I felt fast in the paddocks, and navigated cleanly in the forest.

It was a much friendlier start through the open paddocks. Then the real challenge - back into the same area as the first 4 controls from yesterday.

14 was the danger control. I was extra careful to go the second fence crossing with a bare rock surface so that I was sure of my position. I then took extra care keeping close map contact and found it spot on.
This was the same control that caused Pat and Brodie grief in the M21E race.

I caught Simon at 2, and left him on the way to 16. It was good to have some company and keep me running hard.

A great challenge in physically and technically demanding terrain.

I ran well for most of the course.
I lost 5 minutes on #2. I feel that something is wrong with the map here. My GPS shows that after relocating off the creek, I eventually punched the control at the north end of the control circle, but go through #1 and #3 spot on.
When you look at Livelox leg 1-2, all of the M45A competitors also punch the control at the north end of the circle after leaving #1 spot on.
This was frustrating, as without this time loss I would have been very close to Grant.

The other small loss was at the end of the first long leg at #5. I was just a bit low on the slope. There was a lot of rocky ground and I didn't see the boulders stand out from the other rocks.

The rest of the course was really fun, but hard work. I enjoyed the challenge, although it was hard work for many competitors in such demanding terrain.

A very intense area. I overshot the first control getting used to the 1:7500 scale. There were several very difficult controls. I had to really slow down and keep map contact.
My biggest time loss was at the second last control. Coming up from the clearing I couldn't see the small gully and headed too far west to a flag on a rock that was not mine.

A fast area. I ran ok, but didn't seem to be able to break into top speed enough. Often I found I had to slow down to see the map clearly and determine if narrow pathways were passable. At one point approaching 20 I had to come to a complete stop to read the map clearly.
