Vetting at Kings Gap for upcoming local meet. 4-5" of snow on the ground. Did it all in snowshoes with hiking boots, so it was nearly all walking pace - a little jogging occasionally. It was slow going. Toes held up ok until the last half hour when socks were soaked. The snow really wasn't deep enough for the snowshoes, but they certainly offer better traction than just boots. Can traverse steep slopes easily, and of course straight up or down is excellent. I think spikes would have been best given the conditions, but my toes would have been frozen after the first 500m. Lots of climb. A beautiiful sunny day ~32F. Saw some parts of the map I've never been on too, which was a treat.

Got on the stationary bike after the run just to add some time. L10 felt really hard. Some guy came in cold and immediately tried some 100 lb leg presses. I usually can barely manage 3 sets of 10 with 70# after a good warm-up. He struggled through about 4 reps then dropped it with an ear shattering clang! I wonder if he was trying to impress me or the gal on the treadmill? For my part, I was caught watching Hogan's Heros (the movie) on tv. "I know NOT'ING!"

On the golf course before work. We got 4-5" of warm stuff. Breaking trail was nice and smooth, but re-skiing tracks was impossibly stickey. So I broke for an hour. I suspect it'll all be gone in a day or so.

Only 5 hrs sleep on each of MTW nights due to 2-gyro tests with HST so slept in today, resulting in late skiing on warm snow. It would have been better at 7 AM instead of 9. Even with 8.5 hrs last night I still feel tired. Its amazing how much diffference sleep makes to training.

Skate with Brad at Loch Raven. He was on rollerskis. I took a spill on a downhill and did a butt-slide on the pavement at speed. Now I have oozing red cherries on both cheeks. Ow! Why is it I never land on the hard plastic knee pads, or my head with the helmet on it? A butt pad seems impractical, but thats the only part thats guaranteed to hit the ground in every fall. Still, it was a beautiful morning. We skated up Providence about halfway to the old Walker place. I hear its haunted...

Morning ski on the golf course before work. Got 2.5-3" of new last night, and it was warm, wet stuff. I've never seen snow so stickey before. Putting in tracks was like trying to ski wearing snowshoes! It took a track well though and was ok after that, but still slower than normal. Saw a fox. The heavy snow weighing down all the trees was beautiful

Night ski on the golf course...again. Soft and warm. Saw the deer that have been making tracks everywhere. I figured that skiing back and forth in the dark on a blank, white fairway, over and over and over, would be more intellectually stimulating than listening to whats-his-face.

Sunrise classic ski on the golf course. Tracks from Sunday were set up hard so it was fast with poor grip. Suprisingly the unconsolidated snow out of the tracks was pretty soft. It was in the 40's yesterday and 15 this morning. Would have been pretty good conditions for a skate. Lots of fox prints and pee spots all along the old tracks. From the foxes. Not from me.
