Valkjarvi map. Got really lost in a recently slashed area after control #3. Started to rain. Bailed out back towards the road. Relocated in some nice woods on bare rock and found control #6. Worked backwards for a few controls, then went to another that I couldn't find, then back on the road in the pouring rain. (that control turned out to be missing, as I went back the next day from a different direction and found only some brown packing tape that they used to tape on the control codes on top of the correct noll - didn;t help my confidence today though). Walked alot, with some running.

Teisko map. This was the WOC classic qualifier, heat #2. I finished 60 out of 68. Overcast cool and breezy. Beautiful. Didn't have a particularly great run, but not terrible.

East side of Aitovuori today. This is more classic qual terrian. Control picking was the exercise. I was pathetic. Went 90 degrees off to a trail to finally find #2. Was standing in places correctly located on the map, taking 3 steps and then being totally lost. Ugh.

Test race with the US team on the Honkaniemi map. This was intended for us to run at race speed in the terrain to get focussed more than anything. I made a pig parallel error on #3. Saw Mike E. in the area so figured I was ok, but I spent forever re-attacking a small cliff in bare-rock hell until I relized I was in the wrong bare-rock hell. Got stuck up to the waist in a sucking marsh on the way to #4. Had to bend over at the waist and yank each leg out. Ran the rest OK. Had been on this map last year. Saw some Irish guys in the woods too. 1:15000

Work commute. Pushed hard today and managed a 20.2 avg...a PR for this ride. Previous best was 20.1 on Sept 20 of last year. Only the second time over 20. Morning-half avg was 20.5

Control hanging at Pine Grove Furnace. Incredible cool day. 56 degrees F when we started in the morning. Had some hornet trouble. Was putting water in at a shallow pit. Decided to put the water at the bottom of the pit so it wouldn't be so visible. as I was climbing out of the pit I got stung on the ankle. The 3 watter jugs were now covered with about 100 angry hornets. I found a long stick and proceeded to flip all the cups up out of the pit. Then I got a bigger log and tried pushing the water jugs up the side far enough so I could reach them without getting stung. One of the bottles popped open and drained out on the hornets. They didn't seem to appreciate that. Finally managed to salvage 2 gallons of water and all the cups. Took 20 extra mins for all this.

Control checking. We had 2 controls stolen in the first hour of the meet, so I ran a loop to check all the beginner controls and a few others near trails and campgrounds. Everything was fine.

QOC summer series training and control pick-up at Wheaton park. Ran on a map with all the black features (trails) removed. I completely skipped #6 but didn't even realize it until Ted pointed it out to me. Went to #7 twice and though I had been to 6 and 7. Bad.

Red course at French Creek East. ok except for #9. Bad mental mistake. pulled up short (on pace), but was counting from the wrong attackpoint. Should have pushed on and bounced off trail 200m beyond if necessary, but instead wandered from terrace to steepness to whatever. Ugh. Cost ~6 mins.

24 minute ROGAINE. (summer series event at Great Falls). Man, the woods here are awesome! I couldn't find #14 in the green area, so gave up and just continued.

Streamer pickup. At least twice I was standing directly under the streamer on the feature and didn't see it! Maybe this explains #14. Probably not. I really didn't know exactly where I was on top of that spur.

Work Commute. Beautiful day. Cool and dry and clear and calm. Managed a 19.9 avg pace, equal in both directions.

Short loop right after getting off the bike. Legs still wanted to pedal.

zig zag. Wet and muddy. 3rd fastest time. Still trying to beat the 49:08 from back in Feb. It all seems to come down to how fast I am on the biggest hill, which is about 200m long.
