cycling 3:20:00 [3] 55.4 mi (3:37 / mi)

Nice ride with Brad from my apt. Beautiful day, although there was a strong, gusty wind from the NW. Brad wasn't feeling well so our pace was a bit off, but we got the job done. Went up to Rocks SP and back via Boordy. At one point someone raced past us and nearly drove us off the road. Just as I was raising my arm off the bar to give a one-finger salute I realized it was a cop! Run off the road by a cop. No sirens. No one coming the other direction. No reason not to give us some space. Lots and lots of climb today. The new bike felt just fine on this long ride. The only issue remaining is the toe-wheel overlap.

Spent some time trying to get rid of an annoying noise in Brad's bottom bracket. Removed the cranks and re-set them tightly (thinking they were loose) but it was still there. It appears the BB is shot. Got a new one at Performance and will install tonight. These modern sealed cartridge bearing BBs just don't seem to hold up like well maintained cone-and-cup old school ones. I've got thousands and thousands of miles on my 17-year old bike and its still in fine shape.

road run 40:42 [4] 10.15 km (4:01 / km)

Roland Park. This was brutal. 4 days of cycling followed by this after a long day at work. Mental effort just to keep moving. Suprised at the pace though - felt like I was really slogging along.

cycling 1:17:00 [3] 25.65 mi (3:00 / mi)

Work commute. Flipping the stem raised the bars 1/2" and made a tremendous improvement in the feel. The higher position on the hoods should help with back pain as well, and since the drops aren't as low they are more comfy too. On my old bike - and before the flip on this one - the drop from saddle to bar top was 3". Now its 2.5". Only problem left is the toe-wheel overlap. Nearly killed myself making a U-turn in the driveway at work this morning. I'm afraid the only solution is a new frame. :(

cycling 1:16:00 [4] 25.65 mi (2:58 / mi)

Work commute. Adjusted the low stop 1/2 turn on the front deraileur and that eliminated the chain throws. But now I get rubbing in the 39-27 and faint noise in the next one down. So went back 1/4 and will see how that is tomorrow.

cycling 1:42:00 [3] 33.65 mi (3:02 / mi)

Work commute plus. Same as 2 weeks ago. Time still just an estimate based on elapsed minus an estimate of the traffic light time. Felt like I was pushing ok though. Or I was tired. Or both.

cycling 1:17:00 [3] 25.65 mi (3:00 / mi)

Work commute. Time just an estimate since I still don't have the computer attached to the new bike. Had a nice tailwind this morning though. Moved the saddle back another cm which seemed to help. New shoes arrived yesterday and I put the cleats on. Gave the bars a little more upward angle, which also seemed better. The real problem with the new bike is the compact size and longer cranks result in my toes hitting the front wheel in low speed turns. This also makes track stands very difficult. Hopefully I can learn to have my feet positioned properly while turning, as this will likely be a feature of nearly any frame I get. My old bike has a shallower head angle, so this wasn't a problem. Being short has its disadvantages.
