Waterworks 10.
Started out with Liam, planning to just take it easy, but we got separated early on the single-track and it didn't take long before Liam was out of sight ahead. I then had a bit of confusion about the route at the top of the steps when there was nobody ahead and I saw pink tapes marking a small track in the direction I expected but the course was marked with red tapes. Did a bit of back and forth trying to confirm the right direction and was then still worried that Liam might have gone the wrong way so stopped and got my phone out to try check his location. It didn't help so I continued on and eventually saw him coming back the other way about 2 minutes before I got to the turn.
I had some thoughts of catching Liam on the downhill so took the brakes off and just let it roll but tried not to push at all. I went past a lot of people and hit 3:03/km at one point but had to stop for a while again when I got back near the reservoirs. I knew we had to go around the reservoirs again so thought I had to turn right but I didn't think we would do such a sharp turn with no signs and there was nobody in front so I waited for the next person to confirm and then had a look around and found the sign behind a parked car. Legs felt a bit tired on the final climbs but got past a few more and won a sprint finish to move up to 48th of 95, right in the middle. Declined the spot prize of cider so was given vegan deodorant instead.
Liam finished about 3 minutes ahead. Rained the whole time so both of us were covered in mud, ideal for packing to go home tomorrow.

Turbo Chook Day 3, Mt Pearson.
Heard they were allowing early starts when we arrived so got going as quickly as I could as I expected the rain to just get worse. I tried to have a more competitive mindset today and push myself a bit harder but it didn't really seem to help in the results. I had a pretty good run with just a little bit of a lapse in concentration towards the end due to fatigue and injuries. I tripped over going into 5 and took a bit of skin off my hand. I was a little distracted by the pain and blood on the next couple but nothing serious. Splits show I was a lot more competitive in the downhill stretch from 8-12 than I was on the uphill start. Just after the crossing through the green on the way to 13 I bashed my shin on a hidden log and I think this, combined with fatigue and a return to climbing, contributed to a bit of time loss on 14 and 15 which was enough to let Aldo get ahead of me and almost Isaac too. Good to see the boys running well with Liam also having a clean but conservative run to be only a few minutes behind.
Finished 8th on the day but stayed 5th overall.

Turbo Chook Day 2, Mt Pearson.
No mistakes but didn't get the route choice right on 2 and just not strong enough for this terrain. Front of right ankle was seizing up when I tried to keep running through the rougher stuff so it felt as though I walked about half the course. Liam started 20 minutes before me and I punched number 2 just ahead of him so he stuck pretty close behind me for the rest of the course. 5th place but over 5 minutes behind.

Tasmanian Middle Champs at Rajah's Rocks.
Pretty consistent steady run. Probably started a little conservative and got more aggressive as I realised how easy it was. Lost contact with the map a little on the long downhill leg so lost a bit of speed for a while but got it ok in the end. Worst mistake was on the second last where I was just trying to rush and guess which way to go instead of reading the map so lost about 30 seconds.
Niko Stoner came past me on the way to the last, moving a fair bit quicker, so I was surprised to find he had started 4 minutes before me. I was even more surprised when I checked the live results while queuing for lunch and found my name was still at the top of the list. At first I thought I must have filtered or sorted the results incorrectly but it was correct, everyone else had just screwed up more than me. First in M21A.

UTAS sprint. Lost about 30 seconds on 13 when I was put off by the people at the bottom of the impassable wall and couldn't see a way up past the wall so went back and tried a different way. Lost another 20 seconds a couple of controls later when I turned down the path on the near side of a building instead of the far side.
