Orienteering race 1:19:28 [4] 9.3 km (8:33 / km)
shoes: Yellow Inov8 X-talons 212

Not feeling very optimistic about this before hand - an open, runnable, hilly area... My favourite.........
First small loop was pretty accurate, maybe loosing a little time here and there through hesitations and slightly off line. This was where the first storm him (OK, I really cannot complain, I had it easy, but at the time I thought it was pretty bad). Really slow moving on all this bit anyway.
Long leg I chose an interesting route - will be interesting to see how it compares. Got kinda bored at constantly looking at my map pretty early on on this leg so realised I could see the big hill next to my control from agessss away, so just folded up my map and ran. Slight loosing of the line in between the last two walls so ended up at the stile further down than the one I wanted but didn't really mind too much. Looked at my map again at this point to get to nail the control.
From then on nav was spot on and I'd remembered that this was a race and I should probably be going a bit faster - jelly babies kept me going - so picked up the pace a bit and absolutely loved the down hill controls. Hannah C caught me at 12 and she gave me the much needed enthusiasm to get up the last set of hills and down into the finish.
Ankles feeling not too bad. Felt I needed to slow down on a couple of the rocky down hill bits a few times when they were put under pressure but listened to this and subsequently they're no worse than when I started.
Overall pretty pleased with this, couldn't have asked for much better nav, and just surprised with how i managed with all the hills physically.
Proper distance to come

Orienteering race 35:39 [5] 3.49 km (10:13 / km) +180m 8:07 / km
shoes: Yellow Inov8 X-talons 212

Took it steady out the start which in retrospect was probably a bit of a mistake as the first few were simple and fast. Therefore Lindsay caught me on the way to no.4 which was a bit unexpected and distracted me a little. This combined with the confusing green sploges lost me 4mins which is wayyy to much on a course like this. Alice them caught us after a few and dragged Lindsay with her so I was left on my own. Nailed all the rest of the nav but was pretty slow. Disappointing result.

Event: JK 2016

Orienteering 23:48 [5] 2.8 km (8:30 / km) +45m 7:52 / km
shoes: Gel Asics Cumulus 16

Kinda disappointed with this race. Wasn't particularly clean and my running was wayyyy off pace. I had previously geeked all the multilevel stuff but it all seemed to go straight out my head.
Couldn't find no.1 or start or anything on the map coming out the start so basically just followed where I saw others going round the corner before eventually finding it on the map, so pretty slow and hesitant. no.2 I got confused with the underpass bits near the control, but i think this lead me to picking the faster route as I just avoided the steps.No.4 I tried to go up the steps to the NE but then realised there was an uncrossable wall at the end. No.5 once again set off in one direction only to realise I was planning to use stairs leading to an uncrossable wall. no.6 thankfully resolved my confusion with those underpass steps (by accident). The rest were generally OK - obviously just took me a bit to get into it and remember how to read an o-map. However, running just went from bad to worse. Once again practically crawling at the end which is never good, especially not in a sprint race

Orienteering 57:51 [2] 5.76 km (10:03 / km)
shoes: Yellow Inov8 X-talons 212

Reran my Day4 Darnaway course from the summer that I did crap on. Followed by Jane. Taking it nice and easy, just concentrating on navigation. Stopped at each control to discuss. Went really well and nailed all the controls - a lot better than summer. A tree branch stabbed me right in the top of the foot which hurt like hell so slowed down a bit more after that. Even at this pace I didn't take much longer than in the summer - although I saw a lot less forest... 46 min moving time and excluding a jog back to the car at the end - 6days time was 49ish...
