Scottish Relay Champs - Balmoral - 44-category
Good runs by Daniel and Hannah set me off in 2nd a couple of minutes behind 1st, but a good time ahead of 3rd.
Just stuck in there on the first few controls straight up the hill, choosing route choice with the least climb as possible. Bit messy in the control circle on the first 3, but not loosing any major time. A little more lost on no.5 when the control was conveniently hiding behind the boulder, so spent about 30secs searching. Then a bit high coming across the open to no.7.
Never pushing full, but knew I could always turn it up a gear if needed.
Did the job and secured the team 2nd behind a deserving FVO

Orienteering 1:05:00 [4] 6.38 km (10:11 / km) +300m 8:15 / km
max:181 shoes: Yellow Inov8 X-talons 212

Felt like I remembered how to race again before I set off, so after a decent warm-up felt pretty ready.
Got a little distracted at no.2 when Collin declared we were going to the same control, so he would just follow me! But got it fine anyway after remembering I did know where I was going, and despite the unmarked veg boundary, I still hadn't gone far enough.
No.4 was a rather unappreciated slog up the pretty steep hill which killed me.
Really accurate bearing to 6 and just bombed it down the hills here was nothing else to go on, absolutely nailed it :)))
Slightly too high on no.7 while trying to re-fold my map
No.10 was quite a mental battle trying to get up the hill. Easy enough navigationally but really struggled with lack of energy/the hill.
No.11 completely messed it up, getting tired and judgment was going a bit. Just completely missed the ride on the map which led right to the control so subsequently was waayy too far left and lost lots of time. Fell onto a rock/tree and took a good chunk out my knee which slowed me up a bit after this.
Really enjoyed the downhill last few controls.
Happy enough with 4th scot and pleased to be closer to everyone, knowing I could have gone cleaner.

Running 57:00 [2] 10.0 km (5:42 / km) +67m 5:31 / km
ahr:166 shoes: Gel Asics Cumulus 16

Nice easy slowish run, as recovery from the last few days and before the weekend - out from the park, past school and through Sanquhar, up the Dava Way to Rafford and back down the road.
Legs felt like tired and stiff the whole way, so stopped to stretch a couple of times to try see if it would help - think it did... A bit?

INVOC School League - Carse of Ardersier
Went pretty well, clean and not too slow, despite my earlier reservations.
Sooo tired today, headache and generally not feeling great all day, but think this run was what I needed. Bit distracted at the start with the tonnes of children being annoying and the BBC ALBA camera man doing something filming us for some reason (although I confused him by going off in completely the other direction to everyone else!). Absolutely nailed number one though somehow which gave me the kick to get my head sorted and focused as I realised I wouldn't be able to carry on getting lucky.
Clean all the way until 10 when my accurate bearing wasn't very accurate. Bit of a debate after finishing about that part of the map, but I should have been keeping an eye on the veg boundary a bit more. I wasn't that far off, but a bit disappointing as I was trying to do the accurate bearing. Quite mentally tough round this part of the course as I was getting tired, it was the furthest point, in slightly more physical stuff and hadn't seen anyone since no.3.
No.14, I overshot slightly after getting distracted by more little kids, and no.16 looped a little round the back of the control.
Pretty happy

BASOC Schools League Event 3 - Carrbridge
Bit scrappy and couldn't seem to keep a straight line, but there was a lot of wind blow which made it hard.
No.1 was a bit low but quickly realised.
No. 5 never managed to keep my bearing. Both parts ended up too far right. This meant drifting into the wind blow on the first part, then being too far down the ditch of the second. Pretty obvious when I hit the ditch though
No.6 don't really know how I found this control... Basically spent the whole leg trying to pick my way through the wind blow, and hoping to hit the oath and work put where I was when I got there, but this never really happened and just hit the control instead (although didn't realise it was mine, so did a bit of a double take and loop)
No.7 bailed out, and went round the paths as i wanted to be able to run properly for a bit - although legs feeling a bit heavy. Then some dodgy control circle mapping/placing due to the wrong map file being used, so lots of hesitation and searching but that was the same for everyone.
No.11 lost time going across the marsh and semi-open stuff due to some dodgy direction going on
Run-in - 3secs for 80m...... Usain Bolt??
Moderately happy and I seemed to be in a better head space for this :) hopefully more of this coming
