Actually got to the stage that I didn't enjoy this race very much.
Picked up the map and had about a 1.5km leg, followed by another 1km one. This was ok, nice, relatively straight route to one, keeping save and getting a feel for things. Nailed it. Debated lots about my route to 2 - high and safe, or low and through the terrain (still shouldn't have been too technical) got to the path mid way where I had to make my decision and decided to go low as I was already quite far down the hill. Although I think I was further down than I had anticipated. After some very bad contouring found myself looking at the road (waaaay further right than my route had planned) and couldn't get the direction of it to fit to where I thought I could be. Decided just to eyeball it (out of bounds to run along) and eventually found the path (after further than I thought) and got the control ok from there. This route took me through some pretty rough/physical stuff already so wasn't exactly excited for an uphill leg through knee deep heather to a small Boulder on a vaige hillside.... Needless to say I lost rather a lot of time on this, bad compass from my "attackpoint"(if you can call it this- there wasn't much to go off) resulted in me faffing around not really knowing what was happening. Eventually found it and Fred by which point I was about 60mins with little motivation or energy left. Ran with Fred for the next few having a chat which lifted my spirits a bit. Last ones back were technically fine, but crawled round them with little motivation or energy.
Overall pretty bad. Thing probably a bit overplaned for a JIRCs as some people were taking 3+ hours on their courses, but I still could have done this massively better.
On a positive - Achilles were absolutely fine - no pain at all
