Day 2
Set off and almost immediately entered the snow again, so pretty much just ended up pacing behind dad, stepping in his footprints. Weirdly once again ended up following the stannies previously set footprints across a hillside... as soon as we reached the top I took over a bit more, got to the front of dad and started navigating! Confusing enterence into the control meant we (along with a lot of others) were too far right, but mine and dads teamwork meant we quickly realised our mistake and corrected it. Fortunately for us, Emma and Steve didn't see this, so we managed to sneak ahead of them (we knew we had to finish within a minute of them to win), therefore just had to keep ahead of them from there on.
Bit more of a slog up the side of Morven, then contouring round to find a white control (the flag fell off...) on a snowy hillside - good job my eyesight is better than dads! Unfortunately this is where I first noticed I had a bit more lateral movement in my right shoe...
I overrided dads route choice to 5 because there was a perfectly good track we could take which only involved 10m extra climb, so as we exited the snow is was a nice relief to run on something smooth.
Entering the 7km orienteering section at the end was a relief that no steve and Emma weren't around, because the last 4km was essentially a yellow course just to get us back. Pleased that no.2 on the hill section meant they never caught us back up and we took the win(over them - shoutout to Naomi who is a beast!!). Think our navigation on a whole was very good meaning minimal time loss, which really helped!!
This is by far the most broken I have ever felt, but it was really good and I really enjoyed it. Awesome to do it with the girls too.
On another note - my shoe is possibly more broken than I am. Went straight into the bin
