Jukola Relay - Leg 6 - Echip!1
Was in the "mini"-mass start after some interesting runs by 3/4/5th legs. Hands down the best orienteering experience I've ever had though - absolutely incredible. Basically just 1h50 of running round an incredible forest with hundreds of men having a very sociable time.
I was always in contact with the map enough to know what group to go with to different gaffles/make my own decision if I thought we were going a bit wrong, but I also didn't do much decision making/navigation in the middle of the legs.
One small mistake right near the beginning, but other than that I was clean - a guy had just stated he was going to follow me because "you're better than me", I was a bit confused so took a couple of seconds to relocate when he left me and went more in the wrong decision whereas I found the control!
One other bad route decision by me - decided I wanted some water so went a little out of my way to get some. Probably wasn't necessary - no tracks on any of the terrain and I was by myself (always worrying in Jukola...). Found everyone again OK, but definitely lost time with not much extra benefit of the water.
Overall an incredible race - my longest orienteering yet - and one I will be repeating in the future, Jukola is amazing!
