Got up at 5.30am and drove 3 hours to Wendover Woods. Parked right by the start.
Lap 1: used phone/watch for nav: went wrong a few times, hope I don't have to think about the nav on race day. I went massively wrong at about 8 miles, managed to join the course earlier on! Added over a mile to the lap and lots of ascent. Took 1:56. Think I would of run about 1:40 if I hadn't gone wrong.
Ran with my old S-lab 2 with this lap: 2 climbs were about 30%, struggled to get up them as the grip had worn away. Changed in new S-lab 3 for the start of lap 2.
Lap 2: 1:49 Only went slightly wrong, energy levels felt ok. Some of the down hills have to be taken with care: pretty muddy, lots of tree routes
Lap 3: I decided to cut a bit of the course off as needed to get back on the road. Ran about 7.5 miles in 1:25. It went a bit pear shaped at towards the end, felt a bit low, feet were hurting. New trainers were great, had loads of grip, felt more confident. Just need to wear them in.
i had a gel every 20mins: I'm using the SIS gels which have 22cal in each, so only having 66cal per hour. Will have 4 gels per hour next time. Think I will try and run at Wendover again on the 31st: would be good training to do another 3 laps, try 4 gels/hour, see if it makes a difference
