SE training 3:00:55 [2] 22.22 mi (8:09 / mi)
shoes: Hoka Arahi 3

No breakfast, no gels. Didn't feel empty at all. Ran about 10 miles to Stretford Park run, got there just after the park run started so was at the back. Ran at moderate pace, just wanted to break the long run up. Picked up the pace in the last 4 miles. Had no aches and pains. Rained most of the way so ran with waterproof jacket

Ran really easy mainly on grass. Just wanted to turn the legs and loosen the back up. Duncan worked on the quads and back. Feel pretty sore, Duncan wasn't concerned. Felt much better afterwards

Race race (Grim Reaper 40 mile) 5:21:24 [4] 40.73 mi (7:53 / mi) +614m 7:32 / mi
shoes: Hoka Carbon X

1st!!
Lap 1: 1.13.25
Lap 2: 1.15.04
Lap 3: 1.23.02
Lap 4: 1.29.36
I tried Mountain Fuel gels which contain 30mg Caffeine: they are advertised as not been a gel, but a jelly. Load of bollocks, taste like gels to me. They were ok at first, but were sickly later on. I also used the MF carb and electrolyte sachets in the handheld. Again I thought they were a bit overpowering. Will try tailwind again as I remember they weren't that overpowering. Had 3 gels/hour plus 1 sachet every lap.
The hand held bottle worked well- was great not to wear a running pack, La Sportiva shorts were really comfortable and had ample storage.
Probably went out a bit quick and paid for it later on. Hammy and glute were fine, but back was sore during the race: think it was running on the rough grass tracks which were rutted and jolted me around.
The Hoka X were great, especially on the tarmac, extremely comfortable and felt fast. I got a bad blood blister on my 1st toe on RT foot. Will try the injinji socks, they are meant to avoid this problem.
It was a good training run, especially after a heavy week, in the week Mon-Sun I've done over 96 miles! will have a few easy days now and get the back better.
