Orienteering race 1:12:36 [4] *** 8.2 km (8:51 / km)
spiked:20/23c

DVOA Fox Chaser - Red Course - Started out a bit on the hesitant side and stuck to the roads for the first control until I got comfortable with the map. I struggled a bit until Control #3, taking a zig zag route that was not close to direct. After tripping on a fence and banging my knee coming out of #3. I started to settle down. I had some trouble with #14 (came down the steep embankment too far) and #18 (I dropped into the creek bed - light green way too early). I ran fairly clean for the rest of the way and didn't go too hard so I would have some energy for Sunday.

Running 46:53 [3] 5.07 mi (9:15 / mi)
shoes: PI - SyncroFloat

Fleet Feet hill workout - Monroe ave to Cobbs Hill. Normally I wouldn't have run since I was up very early for work and was ready to call it a day - but we already had a sitter set up. Felt pretty bad the entire time. Will take it easy until the weekend.

Orienteering 50:03 [4] *** 6.32 km (7:55 / km)
15c shoes: Mudclaw O+340

Green Course - Mendon Ponds 2005 Icebreaker. This was about the last green course I ran before switching to Red/Blue. I was looking for someplace that was somewhat dry and the east part of MP is usually pretty good. It took me about 6 controls before remembering the course and I wound up finishing 15 minutes faster than 2 years ago. Pace was good but I am not sure what to make of it. The park/course were familiar but there were still a lot of hills. Anyway, it was good to get out before next weeks meet.

Straightline distance was 5.54 km so actual O-pace was more like 9.0 km/minute

Snowshoeing 1:50:00 [3] 3.2 mi (34:22 / mi)

Mt Jo/Heart Lake Loop. The snow continued in earnest throughout the night - so we were wavering on heading up Mt Jo versus staying on the flat (and more trafficked) trails back to Marcy Dam. Mt. Jo is an easy (but steep) hike in the summer, but we had never really snowshoed in these conditions. We decided we were up for the challenge and we were both glad we went up. The short trail up had been broken earlier in the day by 1 or 2 groups - but it looked like no one had been on the longer section down. So breaking trail on the way down and following the markers was a bit more difficult. Anyway the top was fine with about 1/2 mile of visibility. When we got down we finished with a loop around Heart Lake. Of course the sky cleared once we finished our hike. Still had a great time!

Headed back to good old Rochester, catching an occasional radio update on the Purdue game versus Florida. Good thing we on the road in the North Country and couldn't get the game!

XC Skiing 2:30:00 [4] 8.0 mi (18:45 / mi)

Mt. Van Hoevenberg - The Lake Placid area had 12 inches of snow overnight, the temps were in the low 20's, and the groomer had made its way around most of the trails by the time we got started - so it was an ideal afternoon of skiing. Oh yeah, it also seemed like we had the place to ourselves. The snow during the day started to pile up and make the big hills a bit more difficult (up and down). We managed three separate loops before conking out.

Running 39:00 [4] 4.0 mi (9:45 / mi)

Kameron and I got to our hotel a bit early and since we couldn't do too much before dark we settled on a run. Managed to get around Mirror Lake and then around the side streets of Lake Placid without too much difficulty. The main strip was still quite busy with the Women's Frozen Four going on. Kept a slow pace and felt really good after.

We felt even better after dinner (and a few drinks) at the Carribean Cowboy. It didn't hurt that Purdue won as well. too bad they didn't show a single highlight the entire night on CBS!

Running 23:46 [3] 3.15 mi (7:33 / mi)
shoes: PI - SyncroFloat

Turk Hill - Perinton Park loop. Rain started about 1/4 of the way into the run - but the temps were still nice and it felt pretty good.

Running 45:35 [4] 5.71 mi (7:59 / mi)

It was too nice a day not to get outside so I used RLShadow's recon from yesterday (thanks Dick!) and Kameron's from this morning and ran only the paved area of the tow path from Perinton Park and down and back Cobbs Lane. There were still some wet areas, but for the most part I didn't have to worry about my footing. I need to run the Cobbs lane section more often since it is more or less on my normal route.

Elliptical 45:00 [3]

Treadmill 16:00 [3] 2.0 mi (8:00 / mi)

Almost fell off the treadmill today. I was trying to watch the end of the Wisconsin - Mich St. game and the equipment wasn't in the best place to see the TV. So I figured I would tune in with my radio. Of course as soon as that last 3 pointer went in I wanted to see what was going on - so I thought I would just walk off the speeding treadmill and I was not hooked up. I managed to stay on my feet, but I am sure I looked like the Scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz right after he got off his post. I should have run outside.....
