Note

Went to see doctor about the knee yesterday. Actually I have already been to my GP and been given the run around a bit - but yesterday was with an orthopedic specialist. The prelim diagnosis is IT Band - which was my initial reaction about 4 months ago. But the continued pain - even with the reduced activity and some stretching makes me a bit skeptical. So I'll go the PT route, as recommended, and will see how it goes.

Hiking 30:00 [1] 2.45 mi (12:15 / mi)
shoes: PI Synchro Seek Trail

Short (but steep) hike with Tyler's pack from the main part of Camp Cutler up to a couple southern and eastern overlooks. The view to the south included a good number of windmills in the Cohocton area. I did not think the view was diminished too much (they are interesting to look at) but in 20 years I think we will get tired of looking at them and wish they were gone and that we had more foresight.

Actual time out was more than 30 min.

Camp Cutler - Beginner Permanent Course - I am logging this for two reasons 1) because the basic compass lesson given to the cub scouts was a good refresher for me and 2) because I was excited to find a complete, circa 1987 ROC map of the camp. Karl and Jim Tappon are listed as the mappers. It is not likley on OCAD, is missing a ton of cultural updates, and the camp is private - but there are 1200 acres of at least 'B' meet quality land. The map is mostly white and may need a bit more light green based on the limited amount of what I saw. I am not sure why ROC has not pursued having meets there in the past few years.

We spelled 'Scouter' with our 7 control codes.

Orienteering race 1:09:30 [4] *** 6.2 km (11:13 / km)

ROC - Mendon Ponds Cavalry Lodge - Red - After last weekend, north of Syracuse, the woods at Mendon felt a bit overgrown with a lot of ground clutter. Recently it seems like there is a tremendous amount of this low, broad leaf vine growing in the more well lit areas of the woods/pine forest that makes the going tough.

Totally blew #1, not believing the map, and circled around for almost 3 extra minutes. After that I settled down - until #5 - which was on the opposite side of a hunters tree stand. I approached this one cautiously. Had small troubles with #9 and #10 and the rest of the way out pretty solid.

Felt pretty good afterward and maybe could have put a bit more effort in during the run.
