Orienteering (Course Setting) 1:30:00 [3]
shoes: PI Synchro Seek Trail

Flagging controls for the fall meet. FDFs were... well... at the top of their game. My map had more red on it than magenta by the time I made if back to the car. I need to look into the blue cup.

It was eerily quiet in the park this evening. I only saw one person the entire time and that was by the road as I was coming back to my car. The rain can do wonders for the crowds.

Orienteering 18:50 [1] 2.7 mi (6:59 / mi)
shoes: PI Synchro Seek Trail

ROC Seneca Park - Sprint. A late night with some old HS school friends and an early event didn't do me very well. The start was OK and I felt well until 7 - where I could not find the control and gave up on it way too easily. After revisiting the location during the score-o I was even more upset since it was a good control. End result was a MSP. I think this was my third MSP - with all three on sprints. each situation was slightly different - but there is a definite trend.

Orienteering 54:00 [3] 3.0 km (18:00 / km)
shoes: PI - SyncroFloat

Score-0: Walked/Jogged with the kids so Kameron could run. She did pretty well getting all but 2 controls. (she was actually at one of the 2 but just couldn't track it down). I think we got 10 controls.

Orienteering 35:00 [3] 3.0 km (11:40 / km)

Flag P/U.

Test running a course and misc legs at Mendon for the A-meet. Was trying to go at race pace. Distance is an estimate.

Running 35:39 [3] 4.37 mi (8:09 / mi)
shoes: PI - SyncroFloat

I seem to be settling in to a new route that takes me down Cobbs Lane and back along the canal path and through Perinton Park.

Orienteering (Sprint) 18:50 [3] *** 2.4 km (7:51 / km)
spiked:10/12c shoes: PI Synchro Seek Trail

BFLO - Hunters Creek - a return to the A-meet site from the spring. The start of the course along trails really was a benefit to me since it allowed me to adjust to the scale and the map. Didn't have any real problems until #7. After leaving #6, I wanted to run the creek but the reflection on the water kept me from seeing the bottom and I had to cross to the far side. I thought I would count reentrants coming into the creek on the west side, but missed the fact that the water features didn't make it all the way to main creek. So I overshot #7 quite a bit and lost maybe 30-45 seconds.

Nice meet put on by Walt and Patty with some good grub at the end.

Orienteering (Score-O) 1:03:00 [3] 4.2 mi (15:00 / mi)

Ahhh, BFLO maps....when will I learn that the creeks and streams are always way down at the bottom of a very deep feature, re-entrant, gorge, valley, chasm, canyon, etc.....

The Score-O didn't have any obvious routes so I thought I would head out to the farthest point, picking up a couple control on the way, and weave my way back to the start. This resulted in 4 crossings of the main water feature and the need to leave #1, 2 and 3, which were on relatively flat/easy terrain out of my route. I also managed to badly misjudge the my time and finished 3 minutes over. I think an ideal route would have involved getting 1, 2, and 3 early on and possible skipping 15, and maybe 14.

Route was 4,7,10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 11 (passed right by 10!), 9, 18, 6, 8, 5.

Distance is off GPS.

Late evening run around the neighborhood. Mixed in a couple decent hills.

Orienteering (Course Setting) 1:35:00 [3] 6.52 mi (14:34 / mi)
shoes: PI Synchro Seek Trail

Test run on a couple courses for the fall A-meet. Pace was a little slow as I was trotting through the white course, I am still tweaking some locations, and was looking at areas where the map could use some updating.

Boot camp class at the Rec Center.

Starting to feel tired...

Biking 1:20:00 [2]

Kameron and I took our bikes up to Charlotte and rode the trails south the middle falls. There are some beautiful sections but it is not a continuous run along the river. Headed back via St. Paul and Thomas in the near dark.

Orienteering (Score-O) 54:00 [4] *** 4.89 mi (11:03 / mi)
spiked:23/24c shoes: Mudclaw O+340

Ellison Score-O - 1 hr time limit. Pretty much got smoked on this one and I am not sure yet if it was poor route planning or just being slow. Mike and Randy beat me pretty handily and Rob S. probably still would have beaten me even if he hadn't taken an illegal swim to number 14. As it was he was assessed an arbitrary penalty and finished behind me. Fortunately for him it was upstream of the dog 'park'

I was bothered by cramps for the last 3 controls but probably didn't lose more than 1 or 2 minutes by changing my gait and stopping a couple times to stretch. I hit the controls quite well with a only slight hesitation at #24. From above I wasn't sure if I was coming down the right spur and overshot just a touch.

Route can be seen here

Orienteering (Sprint) 18:31 [5] *** 2.1 km (8:49 / km)
spiked:11/12c shoes: PI Synchro Seek Trail

Ellison Sprint - A much better performance than in the Score-O and I managed to beat everyone out (well, at least in part because Nate and William were absent). No real problems except at #11 which was on top of a low spur that was quite green and had a couple trails up it nose. After missing the trails and heading up the adjacent reentrant 20m, I thought I would bushwhack up the side of the spur. Big mistake. By the time I was down Randy was 50m in front of me and we had been standing in the re-entrant together.

Orienteering 20:00 [2] 1.6 km (12:30 / km)
shoes: PI Synchro Seek Trail

Shadowed Tyler on the White course before doing the Sprint.

Running 50:25 [3] 5.76 mi (8:45 / mi)
shoes: PI - SyncroFloat

Fit a run in between the parade and the picnics - out along the Crescent Trail south of the canal and back along the north side via Cobbs Lane. Trail sections were a little soft, but nothing problematic.
