Perfect day for orienteering and it happened to be in my favorite location. Really, only the third run I have had on the east side. It is nice.
Unfortunately, I don't think it was one of my better races. I started atrociously spiking only 4 of the first 8 controls. I had significant overruns at #4 (running along the towpath) and #6 (miscounting the reentrants coming off the slope requiring a relocation to the road) and had a 90 degree error at #2. The one at #2 stunk since it resulted in an unnecessary 5 contour climb. It did look like there was at least one other person that made the same mistake I did based on some of the disturbance on the slope.
After #8, I really thought about the map scale and my overruns and finally settled in - hitting #9 through #17 (GO) nicely. The last 4 were more of a physical challenge than a navigational one.
However, I figured out that the best way to improve my time is with a better
warm-up rather than increased
training
