Running race 21:48 [5] 5.0 km (4:22 / km)
Scarecrow Festival/Safe Journey 5k - Fairport - Since the starting line was 3 blocks away, Kameron and I couldn't miss this one. This was my first timed road race in about a year and I have put a lot of training in since then (an lost some weight) and was real interested in how much my time would improve.
Although it was a beautiful day, it was only 40 degrees at 8:00AM. We headed down to the start way too early, but at leat we were able to warm up and relax. Kameron insisted she was going to run with me, but I wasn't ready at the start, stumbled through some feet right at the start, and by the time I looked up she was gone. I mananged to keep her in sight most of the race but she was running well and I was glad she let things fly (she won her AG). I had a pretty good handle on my pace, but at the end I thought - my muscles feel good - I will really be able to sprint at the end - wrong. I sort of had to pull up at the end and trot across the line. Overall I was happy with my time - an almost 5 minute improvement on my time from a 5k (although a steeper course) last year. Great event with a fantasic finish along the canal in the village. Next year - sub 20 min!!
