Orienteering race 1:07:00 [4] 8.0 km (8:23 / km)
spiked:22/24c

ROC - Night-O - Powder Mills w/ Kameron. I think the sign of a well set Score-O course is how much you agonize about route choices. Well, I was kicking myself once we got back. Knowing there were controls at the extreme south end of the park we immediately headed out on the main trail to the south - our first mistake was to stop for Control #31 (waiting for a line of 3 or 4 people) because we passed this point two more times later in the race (which is also bad). Then on our way to the south end of the park we detoured slightly for #50, which we passed again later. And although I don't think there was poor route planning involved, I got frustrated that the Camp Arrowhead area was OB. There were 2 controls tucked back toward the Camp property that required a long out and back.

Had problems with two controls - #69 and #44 - overshooting them by about 100 - 200 meters. #69 was just poor map reading on my part, but what threw us off on #44 was all of the people (3 or 4 groups) standing on different sections of the trail around 44. I kept thinking they were stopped at the control and we ran to them.

The event had a great turnout and even though it was a bit chilly it was still a nice evening. In the middle of the race I was pushing the pace, but by the end when other competitors were in sight, Kameron kicked it in gear and I almost couldn't keep up with her. We finished 2nd to Tim by 15 minutes(?!). Still waiting to see official results.
